Daniels declared:
"Asking if I am a food snob does not equal a sound thrashing, AG :)"
It was behind the woodshed. I employed the use of a flashy thing, so you would not remember.

And then:
"I seriously do not get your point, Pikenstein, other than as an intellectual exercise, which is inappropriate to apply to these kinds of historical events. You yourself wrote: "genocidal rampage." It is clearly intellectually appropriate to ask how we review events from various sociohistorical standpoints and methodologies, and how narratives change over time; but wonder whether or not we should condemn the slaughter of indigenous peoples?!"
And some other stuff, all of which I agree completely.
In other words, "Yeah, what she said."
BTW, I say this as a direct product of the bloodbath that was the interaction between the Cherokee and the Irish. If a bunch of Irishmen hadn't come over and bumped off most of the Cherokee men and enslaved the Cherokee women as their wives, I wouldn't be sitting here typing this right now. — October 13, 2009 8:32 p.m.
Ponzi Schemer J. David "Jerry" Dominelli Is Dead
Bauder opined: "Having this many billionaires while such a high percentage of people are living below poverty levels is leading to social instability. The stark difference between the upper 1 to 5% in wealth and income and the rest of the population is nothing short of ghastly." Agreed. Ballad Of Rio Balsas
Heehee. We're all 29! Again! Scorpions, eh? I agree with Rocio. She was NOT supposed to go to that carnival. Someone would have been there who would have changed everything. Lucky for you she didn't make it.— October 13, 2009 8:51 p.m.

Columbus--The Man, The Myth...The Mercenary!
"Also, FFP, about three essays ago, you made a rather snide remark about me taking my dates to places like Chili's and Applebees...as in how I got a third date after two at such eateries!" Actually, Robbie, that wasn't Pike. It was my friend Daniels, whom I soundly thrashed for being such a food snob -- although she may have a bit of a point, based on my own few experiences at Chili's and Applebee's out here. I'm sure some are better than others. As for me, my original comment about that still stands -- that some of us would be delighted to find ourselves at just about ANY restaurant where our date didn't sit on his wallet when the check came!— October 13, 2009 1:26 p.m.
Columbus--The Man, The Myth...The Mercenary!
Fishy queried: "Exactly how does one demonize demons?" Now THAT is the most succinctly astute post I've ever seen from you, Fish. Brava!— October 13, 2009 12:53 p.m.
Sixteen Candles
Pike mentioned the phrase "constant betrayal." Yup. Betrayal seems to be my major theme as well, Pike. I'm not sure if it's a karmic dealio, or what, but I've been saying that for years. It all seems pretty mysterious -- almost unbelievable to the average person that another person could be just constantly "in the suck" to such a massive degree, but it's not uncommon. Our prisons and streets are populated almost exclusively with people who never had much of a chance from the beginning. Here's one of them, for example: http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/Aileen_Life_and_De… It's really just way outside most people's paradigm to consider that there are others who are born into such darkness and negativity that nary a sliver of light can get in. I sometimes feel that sex abuse victims, in particular, have some kind of visible mark stamped on our foreheads, so good we are at attracting still more evil to ourselves. Luckily, most of us develop some pretty finely-tuned antennae. I can spot a pervert before anybody else I know. Personal belief: It's all about energy. Like attracts like attracts like. It's VERY hard to break out of the level you're stuck in. It requires faith that there's another world outside the bubble you're trapped in, and that all around you will conspire to KEEP you trapped in. It often will require a break from one's family, which is usually extremely dysfunctional. So, not only does the victim of repeated abuse from every possible source have to envision that there is another world outside his bubble of negative energy, he then has to go it alone, or find helpers to try and reach it. Most people are not willing to do this. If they try, they'll usually gravitate to what's familiar. So instead of finding good people to help, they'll invariably pick out some more emotionally unbalanced, psycho aholes instead. Which is exactly why we have televangelists and most other gurus. :)— October 13, 2009 12:37 p.m.
