The Movie-Studio Logo Quiz: A New Beginning
Seasons greetings, gentlemen. I apologize if I'm late to the game, but duty called. Colonna, I am impressed by your knowledge of animation. I would've never gotten 1 & 4. Anyway, let's fill in the blanks. 3.Night Watch (the 1973 one and not the Russian vampire one from '04). My initial guess, however, was "A Touch of Class." 7.The Wizard of Oz (1939) 9.The Wrong Man (1956) 10.The Changeling (2008)? 11.Cape Fear (1991) 12.The Last Temptation of Christ (1988). I kid, I kid. It's Kundun (1997) 14.Les Carabiniers (1963)— December 23, 2011 10:29 p.m.
Movie Theatres to Encourage Texting?
Love the Casino still, Scott. That's how I feel when I see someone texting during a film. I believe that movie theaters should be made so that cell phones don't get any reception in the screening rooms. What do you need a phone at a movie for anyway? Is your wife expecting a baby at any minute? I would make one exception, however: everyone should be able to directly call the projection booth & the manager if the projection is screwed up.— December 6, 2011 11:56 a.m.
Now Is the Time for All Good People to Come to the Aid of Their Marty!
Thanks, Scott. I will definitely keep an eye out for 3D screenings of "Dial M for Murder". And I did catch Herzog's film. Very interesting use of 3D. Can't wait to see what Scorsese does with it.— November 20, 2011 8:52 p.m.
Now Is the Time for All Good People to Come to the Aid of Their Marty!
I can't wait! This promises to be awesome. By the way, Scott, whatever happened to the Dean Martin biopic that Scorsese was considering a while back? Also, if I may be permitted a heretical question, but does "Dial M for Murder" really make such a great narrative use of 3D? Yes, the scene where Grace Kelly gets attacked, and with that great shot of her hand reaching out into the audience, is terrific, but the rest of the film's use of 3D seems to basically consist of putting bottles and lamps into the foreground. As I've unfortunately never seen the film in 3D, only heard about it, I'd love to know what I'm missing.— November 20, 2011 10:33 a.m.
The Movie Studio Logo Quiz III: The Heretic
OK, here goes. 1.Wall-E (Trailer) 2.Live Free or Die Hard (Die Hard 4) 3.District B13 4.They All Laughed 5.don't know, but I'm guessing it's from a trailer 6.don't know 7.One From the Heart 8.The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 9.Valentine? 10.A Story of Floating Weeds— November 16, 2011 11:04 a.m.
The Title or Trailer Game 2: The New Batch
Since no one else went ahead, I'll jump in. 1a)Title 1b)Trailer 2a)Trailer 2b)Title 3a)Trailer 3b)Title 4a & b) Both are the title at the end of the closing credits. They cross fade from one image to another. 5a)Trailer 5b)Title 6a)Trailer 6b)Title 7a)Title 7b)Trailer (wasn't this one on the previous quiz?) 8a)Trailer 8b)Title 9a&b) Trick question. I don't remember either from the film, so I'll say both are from Trailers. 10a)Trailer 10b)Title 11a)Title 11b)Trailer 12a)Trailer 12b)Title (If I had not seen the film, I would've guessed the other way around) 13a)Trailer 13b)Title 14a)Trailer 14b)Title 15a&b)Both are Trailers? Thank you for the dedication. It was fun as always.— November 11, 2011 3:54 p.m.
The Title or Trailer Game
Oh, I was just throwing it out there as a fun fact (well, if one has a very loose definition of fun). I gave the answer to it right below the question, I just wrote it backwards. I've had the great privilege of being in your class back in Chicago, and I am not being at all facetious when I say I consider you a walking movie database, only with more jokes. Challenging you at movie trivia would be like challenging Lance Armstrong to a bike race.— October 24, 2011 10:47 a.m.
The Title or Trailer Game
I concur with Colonna, and will add the following. 4a)Trailer 4b)Title 12a)Trailer 12b)Title Manhattan, of course, didn't have opening titles, unless you count that sign in lights which appears in the opening montage. Here's a question for Woody Allen fans. After he adopted the Windsor typeface for credits in "Annie Hall", he used it for every subsequent film, except one. What film was it? A:sroiretnI— October 19, 2011 6:09 p.m.
The Crazy Credits, Crawls, and Cautionary Warnings Quiz
OK, Here goes. 4.The Old Dark House 5.I Walked With a Zombie 7.The Last Waltz 8.Annie Hall 9.I Don't Know How She Does It (OK, that's wrong, but it fits) 10.Scarface (1932) 11.Bananas (this is before Woody adopted the Windsor typeface) 12.The Ten Commandments 13.This is the Army 14.The Small Back Room? 15.Wabbit Twouble 16.The Big Broadcast of 1938 (and thanks for the memories) 17.Kiss Me Deadly (I'd know that backward scroll anywhere) 18.Goodfellas. OK, I don't know. 19 & 20. Letter from an Unknown Woman (good one, Scott) OK, I know 1 & 3, (I got the answer by simply typing the given text into a search engine, so it doesn't count), but I'm blanking on the rest.— September 30, 2011 3:31 p.m.
The Movie Studio Logo Quiz: The Final Confrontation
Thank you very much, but I assure you that for me it's partly luck with a bit of occasional detective work.— September 28, 2011 11:20 p.m.
