Suspect Solution
Recently, the port issued an approximate timeline on the Bayfront Master Plan. The RCC (resort conference center) is scheduled to start in 2013-2014 and the Pacifica Condo project begins in 2015-2016. If all this is built as planned there would be unmitigated traffic nightmares and only a bisected linear park for residents of Chula Vista. Please voice your opinion on April 29 at the council chambers.— April 8, 2010 1:35 p.m.
Walkability's Price
I have attended a few public meetings where the "smart growth" banner was saluted. The main objectives are fewer automobile trips and the effort to combat climate change. While reducing our carbon use is an honorable goal, limiting the flow of traffic or just shifting it onto other streets is not the way to accomplish this. Making it difficult to drive to a favored location will not lead us to take a bus, we will simply not support the Third Ave. businesses that need us so desperately. It is also true that there are not enough popular destinations in the downtown area. Just because grant money is dangled in the face of Chula Vista, we are not obligated to press forward with a bad plan.— March 28, 2010 5:16 p.m.
A Little Warm, Mr. Ramirez?
Although Mr Herrera's group was disruptive to the proceedings, their point that opponents of this measure have a valid viewpoint should be respected. The make-up of the panel was very biased toward approval of the tax increase with only the Southwest Civic Association voting to not support prop A as written. The moderator,(Rudy Ramirez),might have been more bonafide if not part of city government. His comment that if the city budget only allows a pay scale of peanuts, only monkeys could be hired was offensive. Mr Ron Morrison also made the ridiculous statement that this was not a regressive tax for low income people are not affected because the necessities of housing and food are not taxed. Without a doubt it was refreshing to have an open forum for everyone to state their opinion. The love for our city was in abundance.— March 11, 2009 5:09 p.m.
