Who paid for the billboard? And what did they get in return? If the taxpayers paid for it, the photograph should have been left off as irrelevant to the message. The fact that the portrait was included makes it suspiciously self-serving for Dumanus and not for the office as distinct from the person holding it. If ya wanna be a reporter, REPORT! That's ALL information relevant to the story. Go get 'em! Do the WORK! Finally, this seems more an act of civil disobedience than than vandalism, especially if there was anything even slightly shaky about the ad in the first place. The bs about "taggers" and "signatures" is absurd on its face. The prosecutors should be made to show cause for spending taxpayers' money to pursue "crimes" of this nature in the first place, and should be disciplined if they are selective in their enforcement zealotry.— December 15, 2012 6:49 p.m.

San Diego backcountry folks double taxed for fire protection?
The central idea behind the Revolution was based on the idea of diluting power among the people and not concentrating it under King George. The idea behind taxing ourselves to provide services we can't provide for ourselves is for the whole state, county, or city to provide equal protection for all of us and we all pay a little bit each to help the relative few who are under threat. If anybody is going to be taxed, it should be the taxpayers/governments who have jurisdiction. When I had a house on a canyon, I had my own on-site fire-suppression system. When the wind is moving the fire faster than one can walk or run, and especially when it's ahead of a 40 knot wind and covering thousands of acres with miles of fire line, do you think any fire agency is going to save your house (despite "defensible space") when hundreds are burning or under threat? Another thing. There's BIG money in "firefighting." Now, there is a use for fire-fighting equipment, including helicopters and big airplanes. But they are ONLY good for fires that are reasonably small, not ones larger than the total suppression capability. After that, on these big wind-driven fires, they are like pissing on a bonfire--completely impotent. At that point their main function is to convince the viewing public clamoring for their government to DO SOMETHING, that the government is throwing everything they have at it, even if its is nothing but big sham of a show for the TV cameras. If the government wants to reduce fire losses and fire-fighting costs, they should HELP people get their properties into a shape where they don't need firefighters. That would be a far more sensible (and cheaper) way to spend those billions than providing expensive entertainment that is totally impotent in the face of a big fire.— December 15, 2012 6:29 p.m.
Ramona – San Diego’s cheapest gas prices?
Diesel is often cheaper in Ramona too, but on my last trip it was 10-20 cents higher than the Mobil on Camino del Rio South just east of Mission Gorge Road and north of I-8 ( 32.7802,-117.102495 ). Gas is often cheaper there too. Beats the hell out of Quick Trip in El Cajon where the "service" varies from rude to surly. I am boycotting them. No bathroom either. At least the cheap place in Ramona (Valero?) has a bathroom.— December 15, 2012 6:08 p.m.
