Poor, by the sea
Hey Paco5555 When was the last time you were in Imperial Beach? 1989? Middle class? Yes. Lots of lower middle class? Yes. That is the point the Mayor is trying to make. The low cost hotel we had was replaced by a hoity toity style hotel that few here can afford. The low cost El Camino motel where "John From Cincinnati" was filmed was torn down. The picture is from this past weekends "Symphony by the Sea" Not a druggy, dirt bag or bum in the bunch. This is Imperial Beach today.

Oh, Hyphen Man, where are you?
San Diego Comic-Con International is not about space or lack of it. It is about the atmosphere in and around the Con. It is the with-in walking distance hotels, restaurants, theaters, stores, and venues. It is the public transportation that can be taken to the Con from the airport, train station, or in my case my home. In an interview I did with SDCC Marketing Director David Glanzer several years ago he talked about the thousands of volunteers needed to make the Con a success. We agreed that no other state, city, or venue would be able to provide such an experienced army of local volunteers without years of preparation. No matter what anyone says there will always be a Comic Con in San Diego. Hyphen or no hyphen.

**Dear NFL, Have Weird Al Yankovic headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show.** Imagine the halftime show for Super Bowl XLIX at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona and taking the stage Weird Al Yankovic, the pop-song parodist with the Billboard No. 1 album in the country "Mandatory Fun." Surprisingly more than 80,000 people have signed an online petition trying to make that idea a reality. Ed Ball of Washington State started a petition on
change.org
asking the National Football League to have Yankovic headline the Super Bowl halftime show. Ball explains his reasons on the “For decades Weird Al has entertained fans, young and old, with his popular clever parodies and unique sense of humor. Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show would not only be overly accepted by the millions of views, but it would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and respect out of this prestigious event. The songs of artists that he is parodying could join him on stage to accompany, as well as other surprise appearances from well-known actors/actresses, adding more prestige and star power. The theatrics alone would be hilarious and a welcoming change, and draw a wider audience of fans that typically would not tune into the championship game or half-time show.” [

**Dear San Diego Reader,** Had some difficulty posting my Craigslist item and after some help from your web-site team I realized what was confusing me. Instead of posts on Holler going from newest to oldest they go from oldest to newest. I wasn't scrolling down because I figured I had read all the Hollers for Imperial Beach. I’m thinking if a new visitor arrives they may get turned off seeing a year or more older posts and move on. So I vote lets put the recent posts at the top! Who’s with me!!

**Hello Imperial Beach.** It’s sad that either no one is reading the Holler section or those of us posting are just really boring. I saw this posting on *Craigslist* of a Job offer for an Office Manager in Imperial Beach. They say the applicant “must be able to type 50 WPM "using all fingers". This is mandatory.” I’m thinking whether you have all 10 fingers or missing a few that would count as discrimination.

I ride a bike almost every day in and around the Imperial Beach and Nestor neighborhoods. Several businesses along Imperial Beach/Coronado Blvd and Palm Avenue have a bad habit of placing advertising sandwich boards in the bike lanes. So far I have only taken photos of the offending signs but I have been tempted to knock them down or to even grab them and take them home.

Posted the wrong photo with my Holler and took several attempts to rectify the whole situation so feel free to ignore this little part on see my comments about business signs in the bike lanes.

**What was the mystery object in the sky over Imperial Beach?** For the second time in as many weeks an object floated over Imperial Beach going in the South-East direction from the beach towards San Ysidro. Looking like a huge black garbage bag, possibly 4ftX6ft. with some describing a ribbed appearance on one side. The first time was Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 11:45 AM and again today Monday, Oct. 21 at 11:55 AM. Any ideas?

**Mar Vista Middle School roof attracts teens** For the second Sunday in a row I have encountered teenage boys jumping the fence at Mar Vista Middle School located at 1267 Thermal Ave. San Diego in the Nestor neighborhood right outside the Imperial Beach city limits. The two boys were seated on the school roof drinking bottled water that they possibly bought from the vending machines located just feet from the fence they had climbed. I was on my way to the South Bay Drive-in Swap Meet around 8:30 am when I saw the boys on the roof and stopped as any concerned citizen should do when they see suspicious behavior. One of the boys gave me a thumbs up but neither seemed to be aware they were doing anything wrong. I brought up the subjects of trespassing, which they shrugged off, Neighborhood Watch which got another shrug and finally reporting suspicious behavior to the police which seemed to get their attention and them moving.

This is Imperial Beach today. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2015/m…— March 17, 2015 1:36 p.m.
Hyphen or no hyphen. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/a…— August 9, 2014 11:52 a.m.

Ed Ball of Washington State started a petition on change.org asking the National Football League to have Yankovic headline the Super Bowl halftime show. The theatrics alone would be hilarious and a welcoming change, and draw a wider audience of fans that typically would not tune into the championship game or half-time show.” [http://www.change.org/petitions/tracy-perlman-nfl…] [1]: http:// http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/a…— August 7, 2014 5:06 p.m.

Who’s with me!!— February 19, 2014 4:14 p.m.

This is mandatory.” I’m thinking whether you have all 10 fingers or missing a few that would count as discrimination.— February 19, 2014 3:55 p.m.

I ride a bike almost every day in and around the Imperial Beach and Nestor neighborhoods. Several businesses along Imperial Beach/Coronado Blvd and Palm Avenue have a bad habit of placing advertising sandwich boards in the bike lanes. So far I have only taken photos of the offending signs but I have been tempted to knock them down or to even grab them and take them home. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2014/j…— January 8, 2014 3 p.m.

Posted the wrong photo with my Holler and took several attempts to rectify the whole situation so feel free to ignore this little part on see my comments about business signs in the bike lanes.— January 8, 2014 2:51 p.m.

Any ideas? http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/o…— October 21, 2013 6:45 p.m.

I brought up the subjects of trespassing, which they shrugged off, Neighborhood Watch which got another shrug and finally reporting suspicious behavior to the police which seemed to get their attention and them moving. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/s…— September 23, 2013 6:49 p.m.
