Cop Shooting at Gay Pride
I'm not saying that a jury should say "he must've done something." My point is....awarding criminals, or gang members, millions of dollars for doing jail time for a crime they didn't committ, isn't the solution. We have a system. The system SOMETIMES lets guilty people go free (see OJ). It sometimes jails innocent people. Well, why does this mean we eventually give the innocent people millions? Unless, the system (ie cops, judges, lawyers), purposely KNEW the person was innocent, and did some shady stuff, the jailed person doesn't really deserve millions. Maybe a small amount of money, for their "pain and suffering" but that's it.— July 29, 2008 12:45 p.m.
Janet Jackson's Breast Walks
This is such an interesting and funny write-up on this incident. I was going from one Super Bowl party to another, and missed the "fall out" from all this. Up until then, half-time shows had "has been" performers, with lots of fireworks and dancers, and nobody cared about it. We wanted to watch the game (and, for some strange reason, the commercials). The FCC and laws are so strange. Why was the amount of money not able to stick, yet the FCC could fine Howard Stern for some things, without it ever going to court? And, he said things that would be innuendo, that children wouldn't understand. That didn't involve nudity. Bizarre.— July 28, 2008 12:33 p.m.
100 Best Movie Villians
I saw the latest Batman...Dark Knight. Heath Ledger was a great villian as the Joker. I just thought it was to soon to put him on the all-time greatest list, before the movie had even been released.— July 28, 2008 12:29 p.m.
The Dark Knight clocks in
Well, I sort of agree with that comment above, Jeff. But, people have knocked critics before. They'll say things like "If they could act so much better, why aren't they making movies?" Same thing with music critics. "Let's hear them make an album." That doesn't always fly. I have never acted a day in my life, but I think I'm very well qualified to tell you if someone overacts. Or if their acting sucks. Or a number of things that happen in a film, whether it's the music, the way the script is written, etc.— July 28, 2008 2:51 a.m.
Too Much Beer and Animal Fat
Pete, does the number that follows your name always change? Also, my girlfriend is Iranian (half). So, I guess you could say, I didn't.— July 28, 2008 2:47 a.m.
Cop Shooting at Gay Pride
Well, as much as I hate lawyers (sorry Judy, Jason, and Jim...my lawyer friends)...I don't blame them in this. It's the family that went to the lawyers. I have a brother that is insane. Not in an asylum, but probably should be seeking help. And, if he did something wacky, me and my family would feel horrible for the family he hurt. Our first instinct wouldn't be how we could benefit, from the cops taking him out. EVEN if lawyers approached us, and said it would be an easy payday/settlement case. If my brother was wrong, no way would I take money or sue for that. Unless I could get it from the cops that really, truly did something outrageously wrong. Then I'd turn around and give it to the family my brother did something to that caused it all.— July 28, 2008 2:44 a.m.
Stupid Skydivers
It's not a matter of "understanding" it. I've never been on a motorcycle without a helmet. But, I can clearly understand why someone would like to feel the breeze in their hair, while shouting out some Steppenwolf song (I'd go with The Pusher over the cliched Born to be Wild). That's not the point with skydiving. The point is...you're doing something that's dangerous, just for the experience of a...well, "orgasm". I can think of somethings to do that are a lot less dangerous, that give you the same feeling. And you don't need to pull a ripcord!— July 27, 2008 1:37 a.m.
The Dark Knight clocks in
The problem I found with the review is this. It's the same thing I have with anyone that says this batman movie wasn't good. It was. But, I do feel it was overrated. I feel the same way with Ledgers performance. Yes, he was great in it. And, I was surprised he didn't overact, which I thought, from the commercials, he surely would. I think many actors could've pulled that part off. And, for him to say that playing that part drained him physically and mentally, is just insane. If this happens to actors, well...they should find a different profession. Construction, garbage collectors, etc. I mean, actors and musicians always collapse of "exhaustion". Never those other professions. I think of what Sir Laurence once said to Dustin Hoffman on the set of Marathon Man, when Hoffman said he didn't sleep for 3 days so he'd look right for the torture scene they did. He said, "Why not try this next time...acting." Anyway, to say the movie is too long, I can see that. The problem is, I was never once bored watching that. So, it's a hard comment to figure out. Most of the things in the movie had been done before...fake deaths, characters going from good to evil, love interests who aren't sure who they "love" etc. But, movies, comic book stories, have all been done before, so you can't really knock that. So, all that being said, it was a good movie, and it's hard to knock any of it. Aside from simply saying, it might not live up to the hype. But, when a movie gets hyped as much as, say...Titanic, couldn't you say those same things applied to that?— July 27, 2008 12:48 a.m.
Bale out on Bail, and a Former Bad Boy is Bad Again
You should check out a movie Christian Bale did called The Machinist. A great little indie film with Jennnifer Jason Leigh playing (you guessed it), a prostitute with a heart of gold. He lost something like 65 pounds, and looks disgusting in it. It's got an interesting story. Yeah, I agree. Bale is probably innocent of these charges. He should sue his family for bringing on these charges then. A lot of stars do that, and it works. Carol Burnett, when the tabloid said she was drunk. And, a few recent things, I can't remember the stars involved. Because, there will always be a segment of the population that believes it, no matter what.— July 27, 2008 12:39 a.m.
Commercials, Logos, and who Tony Gwynn Counts on.
Regarding giving rich people things, and not poor people...my mom said how she heard a celebrity, I think it was Dustin Hoffman, talk about his days as a struggling actor. And once he made it, restaurants always wanted to give him free meals. He said he needed those back when he wasn't famous. But, restaurants wouldn't be in business, if they just gave "poor" patrons free food. They want to kiss butt to the rich and famous, but "free food" doesn't mean much to rich people, I don't think they realize. Although, it doesn't explain why Barbara Streisand was complaining at a movie theatre for not getting tickets free.— July 23, 2008 12:37 a.m.
