Give Us Our Music Back!
Dang it! I saw that Conan/Jackson thing, and remembered it wrong. I thought about it for a few seconds, and was convinced I had it right. Without having speakers on my computer, I couldn't go to something like that and even hear it, though (that's my excuse for not doing the "research" this time!) rickey...I agree if you're driving a school bus, most morning radio shows aren't appropriate. Even a duo like Jeff & Jer. I think it's up to the parents and adults, that listen to these shows, to make sure kids aren't around. I remember as a kid, being so thrilled when my folks got HBO. And then hating when it hit 8:00 p.m. because if they were watching an R rated movie, we had to stay in our rooms. Sure, we had Atari 2600 in there, but still. We always snuck out for a glass of water, glancing at the TV and hoping to see a boob, or hear an f-bomb.— July 12, 2009 8:33 p.m.
NBA -- Playoffs and Personalities
Actually, I thought I heard once that Horry had 7 rings. But, you're completely wrong (which is nothing new). Anybody that knows anything about sports, will not look down on your accomplishments if you haven't won a ring. People all know Charles Barkley was a stud power forward, even though he has no ring. Same with Pat Ewing at center, and LeBron, if he never wins a ring. And for you to say everyone will remember the people that won rings. Well...go ask anyone how many players they can name on those Steelers teams from the 70s. They won a handful of Super Bowls, and I'll bet after Jack Lambert, Bradshaw, Lynn Swann, Franco Harris, Mean Joe Greene, anyone outside Pittsburgh wouldn't be able to name the other 55 players on that team (and they all have rings). In regards to me putting down the crack pipe, it's a Briar Pipe I'll occasionally indulge. You're the one that glorifies spliff/marijuana. And, I'm sure you've dabbled in crack. C'mon, admit it.— July 12, 2009 12:41 a.m.
Conspiracy Theories
Well, to say that America is home of hte cowardly, is one of the reasons Bill Maher got into trouble on his show. He was tired of people saying the terrorists were cowards, when taking over a plane and knowing you're going to die, is hardly a cowardly act (in his opinion). If one person claims to blow up a plane, nitwit, I'm sure all passengers will jump on him and kick some tail. Especially now, after 911 (which is when the shoe bomber thing happened, AFTER 911). Again, you aren't listening to what I've said a few times. Before 911, when a plane was hijacked, people did as they were told. And things usually ended fine (except for the hijackers). When multiple people are involved, it's hard to rally the troops, and get everyone to just jump on them and hope for the best.— July 12, 2009 12:36 a.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
Seinfeld was a good sitcom, but it's gotten so overrated thru the years. Larry David has a funnier show with Curb Your Enthusiasm. Taxi was also a lot funnier and more interesting than Seinfeld.— July 12, 2009 12:32 a.m.
Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
Okay kdeuce, let's look at the scenario you state above. And let's point out all the holes. A deputy walks into the house. Without a warrant. First, I'm ASSuming that all deputies/police have been trained on what they can/can't do, and walking into a house without proper cause, is something they are all well versed on. If a party is going on, they probably have a strategy that skirts around the law. Such as asking a person leaving, if they can go in (I remember in high school, seeing this done in Lethal Weapon...Mel Gibson/Danny Glover ask these women leaving a drug dealers house, if so and so is there. The women say "Yeah, go on in." Glover says "You don't need a warrant when you're invited in.") But I digress. You then state that you "wonder why he's there." Really? If you're throwing a party, do you REALLY think the person throwing the party is wondering if a family member died? If their aunt had a heart attack? Or if the neighbors house is on fire? Or...do you ASSume this probably has something to do with the party -- maybe a noise complaint, problems with parking, etc. Now, let's go to the last scenario you bring up. The woman wants to know WHY such information is needed. I'd say that's a reasonable request. Now...do you really...and think about this hard. Do you really think a deputy is NOT going to tell her why? Is the deputy going to say "That's not your concern right now, just answer my questions." Or will the deputy say "I need to fill out my report, and that's info I need." To which the party goer, who is already angry at what sounds like an idiot neighbor (in my opinion), and instead, this party goer/homeowner jumps into a defensive mode. And instead of answering questions pleasantly, becomes combative. It sure seems like that's probably the way it went down. Common sense will tell you that. Cops don't just show up, barge into your house, and start pepper spraying everyone. They wouldn't last long on the force.— July 12, 2009 12:25 a.m.
Sexual Harassment
Refried: congrats. Hope you have another 17 and more! I've had friends that worked placed that prohibited dating. I always thought that was silly. If people act mature about things, there isn't anything to worry about. But as we all know, a few idiots out there always spoil things for everyone else. Mann Theatres, the one that used to be in UTC, my friends worked there during high school. They all told me employees weren't allowed to date. Yet many of them did. One of the managers told me the reason wasn't so much sexual harassment or bad break-ups, but that if a couple is dating, they were more likely to steal and set up various things that way. Weird. I also forgot, one of the reasons I wanted to do this blog was because of a woman I met at a party last night. We started talking about our past jobs, and when I mentioned the radio station I worked for, she asked if I knew a guy in the sales department. I did, and said how he was kind of a weasel when it came to women, and we had a few sexual harassment meetings because of him. One studio had to have all the bikini posters taken down (he was the only one that complained about this). The women that had to record in those studios didn't mind, but I can see our bosses point. Better to be safe than sorry. He also looked women up and down, and would compliment ANYTHING they were wearing, in an awkward way that never made the women feel comfortable. I once told him that instead of complaining about us taking the posters down in a studio, he should try to act normal with the women in the work place. But he wouldn't listen. This woman last night was saying that he worked in radio at a time when that stuff went on, and it was "old school" and things along that line. But my logic is...if things were done a certain way in the "old days," you should get your act together when they're no longer like that. Or at least have the common sense to realize why some of the things people did way back when, weren't so cool.— July 11, 2009 6:13 p.m.
BREAKING NEWS BLOG -- Michael Jackson and Farrah Die
Well rickey....MsGrant might have a point. If I'm not muzzled, my dangerous viewpoints on great entertainment like The Cosby Show, might get out there. That's likely to hurt future generations, that feel Seinfeld is a much better show. I think Spliff had a few good points in his last rant. I would never DARE to think that I understood racism. Even my times dating a black woman, and hearing the stories she had to go through (or witnessing a handful of things), hardly makes me feel like I know what it's like for an African-American on a daily basis. Since rickeysays quoted Chris Rock, I'll quote him. I once saw him say something along the lines of "Not one of you white people in the audience would change places with me. And I'm rich." I'm curious, though, Spliff. Since you hate Obama and claim he's just a "puppet"...and you are against gays marrying...did you vote in the last election? And, who did you vote for and why would you vote against gay marriage, if as you state, you have "nothing but love" in your heart? Shouldn't the homosexual community get some of that love? After all...you may be correct, that they can hide their sexual orientation, whereas with skin color, you can't. But surely you understand how hard it is for a gay man in society as well, and should at least be able to appreciate the hurdles they have (starting with the fact that they have to deal with family members that might not like their lifestyle...I'm guessing African-Americans don't have parents that want to disown them for being black)— July 11, 2009 6:22 a.m.
Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
This reminds me of athletes that get arrested all the time (anyone see the video of Padre pitcher Bush the other day? wow...he was screaming on the ground). Or, a Charger player that is insisting he did nothing wrong, therefore he isn't allowing the cop to cuff (or even question) him. My girlfriend dealt with Charger players for a brief time. She's told me some insane stories about how they deal with authority. Yet, when a scrape with the law happens, many want to always side AGAINST the cops. On the mere premise that they were rude to us on our last traffic stop, or they broke up a party we were at that was loud.— July 11, 2009 6:16 a.m.
Things Left on Your Car
That's funny, although you obviously know WHY they send the photo of the driver, right? They did a great bit on this with Curb Your Enthusiasm (yet another great show, that a person here will probably tell me isn't...sorry if any of you cried by that mere statement).— July 11, 2009 6:12 a.m.
Stupid Cops and the Stupid People That Hate Cops
Well, I'll tell you what...it's awesome that you say you don't want him to lose his job. I was talking with my stepbrother about this teacher, that "accidentally" gave the childrends DVDs with her sex life on it. And he said everyone always jumps on teachers or anyone, that does something wrong. But if they get fired, they probably will never be able to get a job in that field again. Something they went to school for. Although, if this cops offense was extreme, I would want him fired. I don't think adults, that are "hot heads" can just change, by getting a lecture from their superiors. Adults are who they are.— July 10, 2009 6:02 p.m.
