So, you're driving a tractor-trailer, and you come to a railroad crossing, and you see there is not enough room on the other side for you to get completely across the tracks....and you go anyway? The article says Ocotillo residents will have their day in court on Sept. 7th. I would imagine if any impact studies or restoration plans are required and have not been filed, it will be raised then.

A Week on a New Hampshire Lake

You are absolutely right, Ian; New Hampshire is a very beautiful place in the summer. Vermont, Maine, and Rhode Island are not bad either. Yes, a Frappe there, a milkshake here, and down in little Rhode Island (where on St. Patrick's Day they claim it's Rhode Ireland) they call it a "cabinet" of all things. Don't get me started on what they call a submarine sandwich (a hoagie? Grinder? Torpedo? Hero?). Different folks with their different strokes and different foods and flavors, but the sights, sounds and flavors of New England in the summer cannot be beat! Nice piece of writing. Now pass the lobsta.

Heart Check and Life Score Clinic didn't work so well

Scam Diego would be more like it, Don. X-rays, body scans, time shares, what's the diff? Just sign on the dotted line and everything will be better. Is there any area in life where someone isn't trying to put one over on you? It seems like there are con men ready to great you from the cradle to the grave. The fact that these guys prey on the elderly and those who are worried about their health, makes this even more slimy. What gets me is these doctors could make a very nice living just doing what they were trained to do. But no, a lot is never enough for these guys. Seems like nothing is ever enough. Hail Capitalism!

Pacific Beach kite surfers blow right by the law

Wow. The "Aloha Spirit" sure bit the dust at a speed in excess of 5 mph. A north wind indeed. Seems to me whenever there is an event such as the Long Board Classic, the area should be marked off with buoys. Surely, if the prize money can be raised and the event has the approval of the local authorities (lifeguards, etc), buoys can be procured. Also, I don't understand why the kite and sail surfers are not given their own separate area. The fact is, those type of surfers do not really need to be where the big surf is. That's the whole idea of having a sail or kite; you don't need a wave to go like a bat outta hell. Standard surfers do and should have priority access to the prime areas. Kites and sails can get a good lift from just about any wave. Mixing boarders, kites, and sails together is just asking for a problem. Trying to control the speed of any of these methods undermines the very spirit that brings people to the surf. The speed is not the problem; having a mixed use area is.

Rock Church to Remain at Liberty Station

*Mayor Jerry Sanders issued a response on behalf of the City to the Grand Jury, validating what we already knew to be true, which is that the our CUP (Conditional Use Permit) was issued appropriately.* Not being familiar with the details in the case, I would guess that the question is not whether the permit was issued appropriately, but whether the church is impacting the area appropriately under the conditions of the permit. I don't think so. But I also don't think it matters a damn because that church has so much money, nobody objects for long. The Lord knows where to apply the grease; his will be done; and yada, yada, yada, followed by abracadabra. This may be confusing to you, but the half-wits see it all clearly. They believe in magic. I just feel sorry for the poor saps who paid big money for the condos there. They sure as hell did not see this coming. Rock on! and pass the plate for Jesus.
