Con-man math
Here's one for you Matt; Pick a number from one to ten. Don't tell me which number you picked. Now, multiply the number by 9. I know--you should have picked a lower number. But do it; you can do it; multiply the number by 9. Now you have a new number composed of two digits. Add those digits to get a new number. Good. Now you have a new number. Now take five from that number (stay with me; I know you can do it!), which gives you a new number again. Okay. Now find the letter in the alphabet that corresponds with your new number. You know--1 is A, 2 is B...etc.. Which letter corresponds with your number? Very good. Now you have a letter. Pick a country that starts with that letter. Come on--you can do it, I know you can do it. Think! Think! A country that starts with that letter. Excellent! Now, take the second letter in that country's name and pick an animal that starts with that letter. Alright then...(drum roll please) Show of hands--how many of you have an elephant in Denmark? Eagle in Denmark? No? Go back and do the math again. Or, tell me what you came up with.

Should you pay that ticket issued by Ace Parking?
The legal word might be quashed, but back in the neighborhood where I grew up, when you wanted to put a stop to things, you had them squashed. Nothing legal about it, but it was very effective.

Man jumps from halfway-house window in Encinitas Ranch
Blowing the house to kingdom comes sounds a little extreme. I'm thinking the only thing worse than having a halfway house in the neighborhood is having a mad bomber. Care to elaborate, Surfpup?

Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park
"Oh Poncho...Oh Cisco," Oh Leo, you showed me how Mexicans could be the good guys in the white hats too. It was like the Lone Ranger and Tonto, but with sombreros and accents. The Cisco Kid was another reason I wanted a horse and six-shooter when I was a kid. It was a great show. The last time I visited the ranch, the peacocks were screaming like howler monkeys and there was a live barn owl in the barn. Really nice place for a walk.

Should you pay that ticket issued by Ace Parking?
A good lawyer should be able to get the ticket squashed easily. Chula Vista's Muni code reads, **"...the City can contract with....for the preparation or conducting of exams in the City service or for the performance of any other personnel administration service.”** That section of the code clearly speaks to the issue of exams for positions with the City and personnel administration. Issuing tickets is far from that and parking law enforcement is not remotely "personnel administration." Administering to *personnel* is to work with those who fall under the classification of personnel, which are the employees, not the public.

Curious car accident in Oceanside
Oh, the old "My boss asked me to pick up limes" excuse. Ha! Nobody believes that anymore.

Jury selection began for two California Border Patrol agents
Fred, It was just a play on the name: Helwig/Hedwig? But she does seem to have an "angry" boyfriend. Whether there's an inch there or not, I could not tell you. I'm no Freud, but often times, when punks like these beat on an innocent, it is usually their way of compensating for something.

Afterimage:
Cloud Atlas
I thought the movie sucked. I can't stand these movies that make you feel like you need a notepad to keep track of who's who, what's what, where it started and where it appears to be headed, and how the ending has something to do with the beginning. I thought the tattooed faces were cool, and lots of the visual stuff a treat, but the film was way too long and way, way too ambitious.

San Diego's great red light camera rebellion
Yahoo! I'm liking this new mayor more and more everyday. Unlike his self-serving predecessor, Filner is actually trying to make San Diego a nice place to live and does not concern himself with how he might feather his nest. What a breath of fresh air. Can't wait to see what's next.

Jury selection began for two California Border Patrol agents
I hear that...but it's discouraging. I mean, how can we expect the kids today to grow up with a respect for the law and others--to be decent human beings, when they see these authority figures behaving like such lowlifes? If border patrol agents are allowed to mug an innocent person, why can't we? This is why, instead of letting these types slide, they should be made an example of. They are supposed to act according to a higher standard, and when I see things like this, I just feel our society is really deteriorating, and it's our authority figures who are leading the way. I'd say they should be ashamed but it's obvious they don't possess the ethical bearings required to feel such an emotion. If they had any integrity, they would resign, but I doubt that is going to happen either. Maybe the Border Patrol will find some sense of professional pride and let these two losers go.

Or, tell me what you came up with.— February 8, 2013 3:39 p.m.
Should you pay that ticket issued by Ace Parking?
The legal word might be quashed, but back in the neighborhood where I grew up, when you wanted to put a stop to things, you had them squashed. Nothing legal about it, but it was very effective.— February 7, 2013 11:23 p.m.
Man jumps from halfway-house window in Encinitas Ranch
Blowing the house to kingdom comes sounds a little extreme. I'm thinking the only thing worse than having a halfway house in the neighborhood is having a mad bomber. Care to elaborate, Surfpup?— February 7, 2013 4:30 p.m.
Really nice place for a walk.— February 6, 2013 11:30 p.m.
Issuing tickets is far from that and parking law enforcement is not remotely "personnel administration." Administering to *personnel* is to work with those who fall under the classification of personnel, which are the employees, not the public.— February 6, 2013 10:46 a.m.
Curious car accident in Oceanside
Oh, the old "My boss asked me to pick up limes" excuse. Ha! Nobody believes that anymore.— February 4, 2013 10:22 p.m.
Jury selection began for two California Border Patrol agents
Fred, It was just a play on the name: Helwig/Hedwig? But she does seem to have an "angry" boyfriend. Whether there's an inch there or not, I could not tell you. I'm no Freud, but often times, when punks like these beat on an innocent, it is usually their way of compensating for something.— February 2, 2013 4:43 p.m.
Afterimage: Cloud Atlas
I thought the movie sucked. I can't stand these movies that make you feel like you need a notepad to keep track of who's who, what's what, where it started and where it appears to be headed, and how the ending has something to do with the beginning. I thought the tattooed faces were cool, and lots of the visual stuff a treat, but the film was way too long and way, way too ambitious.— February 1, 2013 8:36 p.m.
Can't wait to see what's next.— February 1, 2013 8:10 p.m.
Maybe the Border Patrol will find some sense of professional pride and let these two losers go.— February 1, 2013 12:10 a.m.
