Fill the dam thing

I read recently that billions of gallons of water empty from the Columbia River up north, into the ocean, and yet here we are in Southern Cal, parched and praying for rain. They can build a pipeline to run oil from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, but no one can figure out how to do the same with the quad zillions of gallons of water that flood the North, the Mid-West, and the East every year? I thought we had basic plumbing figured out ages ago. You have water here - you need water there? Seems simple to me.

Billionaires on TV

Matt, When I first saw your lead on "Billionaires on TV," I thought sure you were writing about the recent TV ads for Koch Industries and how they are doing so much to ensure a better life for us all. Those leeches are out to take over the political landscape, and as long as victory goes to the highest bidder, they will probably win. We've got to get out of this "the best government money can buy" mentality.

Murrieta mob

I don't understand why anyone thinks we do not have the resources to accommodate new immigrants. Just look at the millions we provide to other countries, some not even our friends. A $Billion to Pakistan - the country that allowed Osama bin Laden to hide there. The list goes on. It is not that we don't have the resources; it's just that we've been led to believe that being a decent, caring country is expensive and that making war is cheap and profitable. Many of these kids that are coming here now are the result of our failed policies in other countries. These are just the chickens coming home to roost.

Murrieta mob

The mob, back in the day, may not have been the nicest bunch of guys you'd ever meet, but they were decent people compared to the lowlifes who are objecting to children coming here. Those greedy dirt bags in Murietta seem to forget their granddaddy's were immigrants once too. The fact that we take in those looking for a better life defines who we are as a people and has always worked to our benefit. Or, it used to until stupidity and greed took over. Just like in Iraq now, we don't know who we are or who we want to be.

How much did they pay you to move to Texas?

Visduh, What do you expect California should do? Underbid Texas by lowering wages here? Texas underbids California; Arkansas underbids Texas; and Mississippi underbids Arkansas...and pretty soon everyone is working for bottom tier wages to keep the states competitive. How about we try something else? How about we check the companies books to see if they actually need to find lower labor costs, or are simply moving to increase already good profits? Then, if the company still wants to relocate, we have them pick up all related costs (unemployment, retraining, etc.) before they go. That would help California and maybe give the company pause before splitting. This business of letting companies walk away scott-free and leave the state to deal with the consequences is just stupid. I'd like to know if any state funds were used to help this company get started? Did they get tax breaks? Start-up funds? If so, do they plan to, or have any obligation to pay that back when they get to enjoy the benefits of El Cheapo Texarcana.

Peaceful bees forcibly removed from Ocean Beach

So, were the bees destroyed in the process? Seems that would be unnecessary as there are so many bee removal services available. Also, lots of news lately about the collapse of bee colonies, so I would think the extra steps required to not kill them would be viewed as worthwhile. I hope they were transferred and not destroyed. It's obvious they were only there to for the much anticipated, but legally forbidden marshmallow feast.

Biker town

There are a lot of necessary improvements that could make SD more bike friendly, especially regarding pot-holes, but I do feel some kudos are deserved for the nice job done on the Cabrillo Bridge in Balboa Park. That little bridge used to be a nightmare, with major holes and breaks in the road every twenty feet. Now, it is a nice smooth glide. Bravo to the crew that did that one. Only about 1,000 more miles to go, guys.
