Yellow bricks and rain-slicked asphalt

Go Scott, Go! A digital projector at Digital Gym; Yes! A marquee to let people know it is a movie theater; Yes! Yes! Too many people are saying they didn't know it is a cinema. They think it is some kind of techno-health club. The name doesn't exactly help. I want to see the place succeed but it's not going to happen if they insist on operating like a University film club. Having staff bust in and out of the door *at the front of the theater* a few times during the film doesn't help either. They need to pro-up.

Tears of the Prophet at Parallel 33

What? No mention of one of the best art festivals of the year? "Artwalk" in LIttle Italy, also on the 25th & 26th. This town needs a cultural ombudsman, so we don't have so many events going on at the same time.

Overweight San Salvador launch sunk

I spoke with one of the "crew," and he said they don't know whether they will go ahead with the plan to haul the ship down Harbor Drive to Broadway Pier and launch it as originally planned, or possibly turn it and launch it right into the water 50 feet away. I can't believe they built this thing without anticipating all these problems. Who builds a ship first, and then figures out if they can actually get it to the water? Personally, I think the best best is to get that giant crane from LA (since nothing here in little ol' Sandy Eggo can handle it) and turn it toward the water, remove the bric-a-brac boulders and possibly dredge the bottom in that area for more depth, and then using ramps or rollers or whatever, launch it right from where it now sits. It amazes me to think we have shipyards right down the coast in National City that builds some of the largest Navy ships and aircraft carriers in the world and we don't have the ability to transport and launch a 16th century ship. Unreal.

Car-less in Mission Bay

It's not fear mongering, PJMason#2. I just think people should know what they are going to be seeing if they take this route. Also, the comment about the grafitti is not to caution people but to let others know that this stretch is viewed as certain people's territory. The comment was made in hopes that someone either in law enforcement or those involved in cleaning up the area might react and do something about it. Or, are you under the impression that graffiti is more indicative of the native species?

Car-less in Mission Bay

I would caution anyone planning to ride the Ocean Beach Bike Path along the south side of the San Diego river to watch out for homeless, junkies, and drunks littering those areas under the bridges. Between the garbage, clothing, shopping carts and trash on the bike path, it can be a real challenging ride. The graffiti on the supports under Pacific Hwy and the Hwy 5 overpass is unbelievably on the scale of that seen at Chicano Park . The situation is obviously out of control and the police have apparently conceded these area to the drug dealers and the homeless. Sadly, it seems the San Diego River Foundation has also given up on removing non-native species and restoring native flora while cleaning up the riverside in general at this end. I definitely would not recommend this ride to anyone other than those who enjoy a cruise on the wild side.

How did this support life?

Did this hike a few times. Saw the pictographs but not the petroglyphs. Still well worth the effort. Area is saturated with pot shards and pieces of flint. I also took a walk along the railroad tracks, heading toward a tunnel (totally illegal, but hey, you have to go outlaw once in a while). We went around a bend and much to the surprise of myself and my lady friend, we spooked a herd of mountain sheep. She had never seen them before so it was a real thrill for her. A really interesting area and a great hike.
