Lobbyists use Twitter to rip Filner over downtown banquet speech
They aren't just biz peeps. They are people whose business is to get their hands on public tax dollars. Yes, insular. Very. You know the names - Bry, Stoorza, Morgan, Jacobs, Braun, Manchester, Carr, Nikki and Ben Clay, Silverman, Ellsworth, McDowell, on and on...your blog's favorite people and companies (Sempra, Atlas Hotels, ULI, and on and on).. DTSDP, as an organization, is not just the "business people" that comprise the org. It exists to take millions from tourists, property owners, and the city's general fund, and decides, often secretly, what to do with the money, with no real oversight. It is a quasi-government, and does things such as hire people who are crooks w/o consulting anyone, and pays them w/property owner assessments. You know who I mean. The little tweeters are now on the far outside of the concentric circle rings. Boo-hoo, they are angry they are so far from the money pots. Sadly, Reader isn't reporting anything shocking. The article is just doing us the favor of a bit of background research that your blog would NEVER do. For example, a story that was headlined to be about the work stoppage on the centennial, after five sentences by Scott blogger, veered off into hitting Filner for other things. No info, no research. and the link to BPC Inc went to a useless website that has no info whatsoever about the BPC Inc operations (hint: real info is out there, dotinga: why don't you report on it?).— February 7, 2013 4:10 p.m.
City of Chula Vista sued by woman who fell as a result of a broken City sidewalk
When you impose privatized tax schemes on property owners, and give that money to a self-serving private nonprofit group to play with as they wish, property owners are far less inclined to spend their own money doing maintenance work on the sidewalks in front of their properties. Example: A local blog has embarked on a project to post photos of bad sidewalks. One of those photos, in the 2000 block of Fern, is of a sidewalk section that belongs to someone I know. That property owner was forced to pay over $600 to an illegal and now legally defunct MAD run by the Greater Golden Hill Community Development Corporation. In the past 10 years, if the city had spent one-hundredth of the time it spent propagandizing its MAD scheme, and one-hundredth of the $$ it spent on defending the illegal MAD, and thrown in a little encouragement and PR about the 50-50 program (the city picks up half the cost to fix sidewalks), the owner would have been happy to do the minor repair to his sidewalk. All that the owner ever got for his $600 was a pile of rocks around the tree that is breaking up the sidewalk in front of his rental property.— February 7, 2013 2:54 p.m.
Lobbyists use Twitter to rip Filner over downtown banquet speech
Ah, Lani Looter, Anti-Tax Libertarian in chief, and Ms. Busted-for-Sunroad-and-Improper-Permit-Issuance Marcella E-Eck and their buddy Scott the tweeter and blogger. But of course. But wait! Where is Rachel laing??? What a great crew of self-serving, greedy, small-time, small-minded scoundrels. Their insular little world of tweets to each other and their UT-vosd buddies is about as big-time as they'll ever know. These people make me sick, really. Always on the wrong side of everything, they are bitter, narrow minded, selfish, and incredibly stupid. Why don't they all move to Texas? Please, Rick Perry, here they are! Take them!— February 7, 2013 2:36 p.m.
El Cajon Police dog attacks La Mesa officer
Man, this is interesting. If you were reading "Suspect," by Robert Crais, you'd wonder what the dog was alerting to...somebody in that group of La Mesa officers might have something hinckey going on..what's up? The dog smelled something there that it knew from somewhere else.— February 6, 2013 9:39 a.m.
Barrio Logan’s new star: Cocina Doña Tina
Thanks for the response, Ed. I've been feeling guilty about dissing LCM, because I, too, like their story and their effort. Oh well. I'll be looking for you at CDT, for sure. I've experimented at home with guisados recently, so I'll be on the prowl at CDT to see what they do. Always a lot to learn in cooking and eating! Love the Gonzalez supermarket selection of vegetables, cheeses, and other Latino products. A grand adventure. There are some great websites about Mexican/Latino cooking and products, which I consulted after my last visit to the supermarket. After you try all the restaurants in town, then you should start experimenting with cooking, Ed. It's fun.— February 2, 2013 4:21 p.m.
Ben Hueso uses campaign funds for his brother's campaign and to pay for hotel stays with his son
Amen. Having watched him 'up close and personal' as he pushed forward an illegal process in district 8, I confirm that he is the worst of the worst. He is the ultimate readily available tool of whomever has the most influence or the most money to give him. Happy to say that the illegal process he pushed was ruled illegal by the California courts.— February 2, 2013 8:53 a.m.

City Attorney says Mayor's questions about port appointment process "lacks merit"
Wow, Goldsmith at his best, which aint saying much. When he says something is OK because it's always been done that way, and that Council's actions are presumed valid because he told them so, well, .... it will be so good when he is GONE.— February 1, 2013 11:54 a.m.
City Attorney says Filner did not need approval from council before firing state and federal lobbyists

Barrio Logan’s new star: Cocina Doña Tina
Wow, can't wait to go there. Wish you'd named all of those dishes in the pics...can you go back and do a survey? Is there a menu board or ??? It looks like there are little white slips of paper in front of each dish. Are those names/descriptions? Are the prices posted? As for competition for Las Cuatro Milpas, anything can compete with that major disappointment. I grew up eating the pot of beans my mom cooked every Saturday morning, and trust me LCM's beans are nothing special. There is no cumin, no coriander, no garlic, no onion, no seasoning at all that I could detect. Just beans. The LCM tamale: I make much better, seasoned tasty ones at home. aPlus, the LCM tacos come with grease, grease, grease. On top of the sickly looking rooms and uncomfortable chairs, why bother? But I'm heading for Cocina Doña Tina pronto!— January 29, 2013 5:46 p.m.
