Herbal Life's pyramid scheme
Hey "Successful in MLM", why don't you name your organization and tell us about your products? You're proud of your products, aren't you? I get attempts to recruit me into MLMs all the time, and it really irritates me. Most of the time, they lie to me to get me to attend. Often, there's a religious revival feel to the operation, with no dissent allowed, a showoff "leader" telling tales, music, clapping, happy talk, and no proof for their wild claims. I know several people who have worked their tails off in MLM, and earned nothing. You've inadvertently let out the secret...the real money is in selling motivational books, tapes, and videos to suckers. Best, Fred— May 24, 2008 6:47 a.m.
AG Jerry Brown Claims He Didn't Know San Diego Has an Upcoming Election. Is Brown Staggeringly Stupid or Does He Think San Diegans Are Staggeringly Stupid?
SimplyCommon, I agree with you that Aguirre might have cooperated with the investigation, and as a consequence the report may have been more balanced and truthful. As to getting an effective City Attorney who represents the citiznes, who do you suggest? You cannot mean Scott "Million Gallon Man" Peters, who was more than negligent in the pension scandal and has contributed greatly to the culture of corruption. Certainly you don't mean BabyFace Maienshein, who single-handedly battled wild fires, saving the whole city from the flames ALL BY HIMSELF. What about Judge Goldsmith? He seems level-headed, but he seems unlikely to do much to change the situation for the better. April? I doubt she'll get more than 5% of the vote. So that leaves us with City Attorney Mike Aguirre, who might be a jerk, but at least is on our side. Best, Fred— May 23, 2008 12:53 p.m.
NFL Owners Opt Out of Players' Union Contract. There Could Be No 2011 Season. Chargers Less Likely To Leave
In many European countries they simply legalized sports betting and use the profits to subsidize the teams. This allows the fans to support their teams without breaking the law, and reduces the need for public money. Also, in most of Europe, youth sports are separate from educational institutions. The clubs pay for teaching the youngsters how to play at a professsional level, instead of diverting money away from academics. This means that you don't get the sports-segregation so typical on our high school campuses. Instead, the students focus on learning. I'm not sure how it works in Asia, but suspect they also keep schooling and sports separate.— May 23, 2008 12:43 p.m.

Hi Linda, (Good to see another person with the guts to use their real name.) We certainly need to Change San Diego. Please add your information about Prop. 98/99 to www.changesandiego.org. It's a wiki, so just go to the issues page and click edit. Thanks, Fred— May 23, 2008 12:07 p.m.

Oh, hey, can we request songs? I'd love to hear "California Über Alles" in honor of Attorney General (former Governor) Brown and his latest contribution to San Diego's culture of corruption. How 'bout it?— May 23, 2008 11:47 a.m.

I'll be there too. I wonder if "fumber" will attend. If so, the W had better stock up on wheatgrass. Fred— May 23, 2008 11:44 a.m.
AG's Report Clearing Sanders Is a Joke, as Expected. Here's Some Advice: Follow the Money
Actually, this and other songs made the band a target for retaliation. They were prosecuted by the L.A. City Attorney's office for "distributing material harmful to minors". Personally, I think Jello Biafra's lyrics are brilliant. I especially like the song, Stars and Stripes of Corruption. The lyrics are too long to post here, but you can read them at: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/deadkennedys/stars… I think this part is especially good: Tell me who's the real patriots The Archie Bunker slobs waving flags? Or the people with the guts to work For some real change Rednecks and bombs don't make us strong We loot the world, yet we can't even feed ourselves Our real test of strength is caring Not the toys of war we sell the world Just carry on, thankful to be farmed like worms Old glory for a blanket As you suck on your thumbs Real freedom scares you 'Cos it means responsibility So you chicken out and threaten me Saying, "Love it or leave it" I'll get beat up if I criticize it You say you'll fight to the death To save your worthless flag If you want a banana republic that bad Why don't you go move to one?— May 23, 2008 11:30 a.m.
AG Jerry Brown Claims He Didn't Know San Diego Has an Upcoming Election. Is Brown Staggeringly Stupid or Does He Think San Diegans Are Staggeringly Stupid?
Paul, there is a positive side to this sordid situation. I'm out walking precincts and talking to voters face to face. They mostly know that they're being lied to. A lot of voters agree that Aguirre is on our side, and that Sanders and the Council have done little or nothing to improve the city's situation. So it looks like, in spite of the orchestrated smear campaigns, most voters are able to see through the lies. * Aguirre will come out as the top vote-getter in the primary * Donna Frye remains the most popular and trusted politician in the city * Voters are seriously pissed-off at our situation * Citizens of all sorts simply distrust the UT, knowing that it's been lying to us all for years * Online forums like this one are becoming more popular every day, while the UT continues to decline So there's still hope for us. If current trends continue, we'll see a whole new administration next year, and maybe these serious issues will finally be addressed and our city can begin to recover from the culture of corruption.
