Banks paid solons so they can gamble with our money
Don: Always appreciate your wisdom. But job statistics are manipulated. The situation in the US is worse than many realize. The Baltic Dry Index shows that the world economy is stalling out. Corruption in the financial sector is rampant, and goes unpunished. The US is pivoting to Asia and East Europe while militarizing it's police forces at home. Economic collapse is coming; just when may be dictated by environmental factors. Fracking is another bubble that is popping. Black swans swarm...... A few cyber attacks on critical infrastructure could bring down grid. What then?— December 21, 2014 6:14 a.m.
Banks paid solons so they can gamble with our money
Don, The economy is not recovering, unfortunately. Offshoring of manufacturing and outsourcing of jobs through free trade agreements left financial inaction and security action of the economy the only means by which the illusion of prosperity for the 1% could be maintained. The rest of the economy is hopeless. Young people are having trouble finding full time jobs. Maybe one-half are living with their parents. Students must go into debt to attend collage. Most student loans are non - dischargeable in bankruptcy. Real estate is too expensive for most young people. Without money to spend into the economy by young people, how will our economy keep afloat? The answer is that it won't. Derivative contracts have no reserves. Once these contracts are called upon to cover falling gas and oil prices, there will be another crash. Fracking is uneconomical for the moment. That "boom" will not save the economy. The new Cold War will result in an arm's race that is called "military Keynesianism." That spending might keep the economy going. If Russian can be looted again, oligarchs can make money. But I see a fight looming there. I have the feeling that 2015 will be the end of the Petrodollar system and the American dollar as the reserve currency. A basket of currencies with commodities and special drawing rights will probably replace the dollar system.— December 20, 2014 1:58 p.m.
Banks paid solons so they can gamble with our money
Don, the casino economy is just a house of cards. They need to hedge their bets while taking on Russia. Why not double down? How else can the job creators bring real prosperity to America? He, he.... Peters and Obama just go along for the ride. Neocons and Neolibs are just different sides to the same coin. Just wait until the repo market freezes up again as oil prices slide.— December 19, 2014 7:36 a.m.
Quite the grand larceny, if proven true
I learned more about the California PUC by reading this article than I could have by reading all the rest of the newspapers in California. It looks like both political parties are in on the utilities game. Democrats need a new game plan that is pro-consumer and ratepayer. Why vote if the Democrats cannot offer hope and change? California has super majorities in the legislature and a Democratic Governor, yet they cannot give a cost of living adjustment to victims of medical malpractice because Democrats are taking big donations from medical malpractice insurance companies. That forces the issue into the initiative/referendum areana where insurance companies and doctors can out fund raise consimer groups and cpnsumer attorneys. Likewise with the utilities racket. Governor Brown must be aware of the utility scam. He should fire Peavey immediately before the SONGS deal goes through with Commissioners Mike Florio (former Senior attorney for TURN) and Peavey voting for it. This will be a stain on Brown's legacy if he does not do so. Maybe the filing of the lawsuit will create enough of a conflict of interest to force the recusal of both of these Commissioners on the approval.vote of this ill - advised settlement. Moreover, this exposee' will force reform of the pro - utility California PUC.— November 18, 2014 7:11 a.m.

Quite the grand larceny, if proven true
28 - page Complaint seeks more than $3,000,000,000 in restitution to more than 17 million customers and an injunction against what plaintiff's said was an improper taking of property by the utility and regulators. The utilities were unjustly enriched by the taking without doe process. Ray Lutz of Citizens Oversight Project states that the PUC.attempted to settle with.some of the Intervenes without a determination of the issue of lack of prudence by the utility operators. Emails by staffers leave no doubt that the PUC is just a pro - utility rubber stamp, Kangaroo court, which denies due process to ratepayers. The failure to determine fault is inexcusable. What is the big hurry to settle this dispute? The operator endangered public safety by placing profits over safety. The PUC is so based toward energy investors that stock quotes were sent to Chairman Peavey every day in the San Bruno matter, for example. This failure to investigate the lack of prudence could only happen by excluding Ray Lutz and Michael Aguirre from the settlement talks. As an lawyer, I would not engage in ex parte contacts with the decision - maker even if invited to do so. Some of the Intervenes wanted to collect their fees by going along to get along and pay their bills, according to what I read. Prudence is the key issue in nuclear power generating of electricity, not profits of the investors. Whistle blowers spelled out the dangers to 8.5 million people surrounding SONGS who have no escape plan. There were substitutions of alloys in the design of the replacement pressure tubes. Vibrations were set up which.could have lead to a massive explosion. The first thing to do is to get all the documents and take depositions of the percent witnesses. We all suspect that the rush to settle is a cover up. What is the big hurry? The utility sprinkles money around as donations to charities to.come and speak in favor of settlement. What do these charities know? Nothing. Get the documents, take depositions of precipitation witnesses, determine fault, then entertain settlement with all Intervenes present. Recuse Commissioners with blatant conflicts of interest. This lawsuit should disqualify two. I went to Costa Mesa and told the Commissioners this myself. They should have listened to me. Now some are defendants.— November 15, 2014 10:48 a.m.

"This case is as serious as it gets"
I went to an all boys' boarding school. After two years, I returned to public high school. Several rumors were confirmed after my departure regarding more than one unmarried teachers who had had sexual contact with minor students. The key to understanding molestation and consensual contacts with students is access. The predator will go to any length to find ways to gain trust and access. I often come into contact with sexual.predators in the criminal justice system. Reading a parole record about a sexual predator with multiple convictions reveals that they are compulsive. These individuals must wear tracking devices once they are released from prison. Schools and churches provide the access to children these criminals seek. Trust is given to single men all too often. I can name dozens of multi-victim child molestation cases where schools and churches provided child victims. Relatives are often perpetrators, too. In one case, a trusted church employee who was single molested several foreign exchange students. He video-taped the encounters. He had served five years in prison in another state for the exact same type of crimes. He served another five years in California because the foreign students did not want to return from Japan to testify. The video tapes were enough evidence to force a plea agreement. There are false allegations at times. But many more crimes go unreported or under-prosecuted.— October 28, 2014 10:02 a.m.
Curtains for Thomas Jefferson School of Law?
Southwestern Law School was founded in 1911. Its original campus was on Spring Street in Los Angeles. The law school has graduated more minorities and women than any other law school. It is fully - accredited by the American Bar Association and the American Association of Law Schools. "Getting a job" and practicing law are two different things. Yes, go to the T14 law schools if you can get in and afford the tuition. Southwestern has many graduates who are trial lawyers and judges. Not everyone works for corporate America. The law is a stern mistress. Do not go to law school if money is your goal.— October 23, 2014 7:08 a.m.
