Shenel Johns
Shenel Johns is a jazz musician whose vocal range is rooted in her early exposure to reggae and gospel. A graduate of the Hartt School in West Hartford CT, where she received mentorship from Jackie McLean’s esteemed alumni, she’s known for blending gospel, jazz, R&B, and traditional blues influences. Johns also mentors young artists and performs in residencies from Shanghai to Mexico. Winner of the Riga Jazz Stage Vocal Competition, she has collaborated with jazz luminaries like Wynton Marsalis and Damien Sneed, as well as working with Endea Owens ("Miss Celie's Blues," "I Still Believe") and featuring on "You Turned the Tables on Me" (2023) by The Danny Jonokuchi Big Band, from the album Voices, pairing the 17-piece big band with 11 vocalists. Her debut quintet record Backbone dropped in 2020, and she has performed in venues and festivals worldwide, including recent appearances with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and on the 2024 tribute album The Music of Max Roach. For this La Jolla performance, she will be staging both an early and a late set.

MGK and Wiz Khalifa
Colson Baker, AKA MGK or Machine Gun Kelly, first made his mark on the music world with rap music, and then pop-punk and alt-rock, before trying his hand at several high profile acting roles. Initially known for a frenetic hip-hop style as on his album Lace Up, he earned notoriety for his 2018 feud with Eminem, releasing the diss track "Rap Devil." He achieved mainstream success with hits like "Bad Things" (with Camila Cabello), "Wild Boy" and "My Ex's Best Friend," successfully shifting genres with the number one pop-punk album Tickets to My Downfall. Wiz Khalifa gained fame for the 2010 hit "Black and Yellow" (a tribute to Pittsburgh), "See You Again" (a tribute to Paul Walker), and the chart-topping Charlie Puth collaboration “See You Again.” Known for his cannabis-centered hippie stoner image, laid-back flow, and catchy, melodic hooks, his influential 2010 mixtape Kush & Orange Juice solidified his fanbase, followed by successful albums like Rolling Papers. MGK and Wiz Khalifa recorded the 2013 hit "Mind of a Stoner" together, and the duo has a collaborative album planned for release this summer. The bill includes L.A. pop-punk band Beauty School Dropout, who were mentored by members of blink-182 and Fall Out Boy and currently have over 60 million online streams.

Yungblud
Yungblud (Dominic Harrison) is known for blending pop-punk, emo, and alt-rock with 1970s rock, punk, and hip-hop, creating a raw, energetic sound that resonates with young audiences. His politically charged lyrics deal with social issues and corporate greed, as well as addressing topics like mental health, depression, and sexuality. As a queer and pansexual artist, he challenges gender norms through his fashion and music, advocating for fluidity and self-expression. Seen as somewhat of a voice and figurehead for the concerns and lifestyle shared by Gen Z, his breakout 2019 hit “parents” went viral on TikTok, and he accumulated over 300 million streams on Spotify with popular tracks such as “I Love You, Will You Marry Me.” He has scored multiple number one albums in the UK, as well Grammy nominations, and his collaborators have included artists like Halsey & Travis Barker (“11 Minutes”), Machine Gun Kelly & Travis Barker (“I Think I’m OKAY”), and Ozzy Osbourne, who made a cameo appearance with his wife Sharon in Yungblud’s 2022 video for “The Funeral.” He’s touring in support of his two recent albums of cover tunes, 2025’s Idols and a follow-up released in February, Idols 2, which includes a cover of the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Zombie” featuring lead Pumpkin Billy Corgan on vocals and guitar.
