Reception & Lecture: Bitter Sweet
Attend the opening reception of a new WWII exhibit and lecture featuring author Kitty Morse. Morse will discuss her new book, Bitter Sweet: A Wartime Journal and Recipes from Occupied France. The book was written after she discovered her great-grandfather’s journal chronicling the advance of the Germans in Alsace-Lorraine, plus two notebooks filled with recipes written in her great-grandmother’s hand. Morse’s great-grandmother died in Auschwitz.

Archaeology Day is a family-friendly event that celebrates the cultural heritage of the Anza-Borrego Desert and the people who lived there for thousands of years. The day includes an opening ceremony conducted by a Cahuilla Elder, traditional Cahuilla and Kumeyaay bird singers and dancers, and storytelling. Visitors can observe a Juncus basket weaving demonstration and participate in pottery making and rock painting. The Begole Archaeology Research Laboratory, which houses significant artifact collections and is typically closed to the public, will offer guided tours during the event.

Ryan Raddon, known professionally as Kaskade, is a Grammy-nominated American DJ, producer, and remixer from Chicago. He’s known for his house, progressive, and deep house styles, and was the first electronic artist to headline Coachella. He’s collaborated with artists like Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, Meghan Trainor, and deadmau5 (as part of Kx5). In 2024, he became the first In-Game DJ at the Super Bowl. He was named “America’s Best DJ” by DJ Times in 2011 and 2013.
