Mike Myrdal at Farmer & the Seahorse

August 23

Originally from Holden, Massachusetts, singer-songwriter Mike Myrdal worked in sales at the Active Network for around five years before opting for a full-time career in music, beginning in 2007. He first came to local notice fronting the Dave Matthews tribute band Stepping Feet, before stepping out on his own as a solo acoustic singer-songwriter. He performs over two hundred shows annually, ranging from bars and music venues to weddings, corporate events, music festivals, private functions, and more. He's shared the stage with John Popper, the harmonica player/lead singer of Blues Traveler, and his solo performances feature acoustic music spanning several genres (and decades) of music, including songs by the Beatles, Queen, Chris Stapleton, Metallica, Foo Fighters, and others.

The Beat Farmers Hootenanny at the Belly Up Tavern

August 23

The Beat Farmers were an alternative rock and country music band formed in 1983 that enjoyed a cult following throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. Rhino Records released their album Tales of the New West, produced by Blasters/Los Lobos saxophonist Steve Berlin and featuring a hit single, “Happy Boy,” frequently played on The Doctor Demento Show. The 14th Annual Beat Farmers Hootenanny will feature The Farmers and Friends, with several surviving Beat Farmers members gathering to play a set in tribute to fallen comrades such as their late drummer and singer Country Dick Montana, who died onstage in 1995, and Buddy Blue, who passed in 2006. Guests will include Bill Davis of Dash Rip Rock, Pete “Wetdawg” Gordon of Mojo Nixon & the Toadliquors, Joe Dyke and Ed Croft of Buddy Blue's band, and Beat Farmer Joey Harris with his band The Mentals.

Thee Sacred Souls at Pechanga Arena

August 24

Taking their name as a partial nod to Chicano rock heroes Thee Midniters, Thee Sacred Souls founding duo Alex Garcia and Sal Samano (formerly of Fake Tides) began cutting bedroom demos of rhythm tracks together in 2019. After their first club date, they were signed by Daptone Records producer and co-founder Bosco Mann (Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings), and within days were recording at Mann’s Riverside studio. To match their vintage soul sound, the band records their tracks on vinyl, debuts them in physical form, and only then distributes the singles on music-streaming platforms and YouTube. Last year’s release of their sophomore album, Got A Story To Tell, earned them a performance slot on the Jimmy Kimmel Live late night television show. The concert is headlined by Columbian-American singer-songwriter Kali Uchis, who has won a Grammy, an American Music Award, two Billboard Music Awards, and has been nominated for five Latin Grammys.

Johnny “V” Vernazza at Humphreys Backstage Music Club

August 25

Johnny “V” Vernazza has played guitar with blues greats like Chicago guitarist Luther Tucker and Sunnyland Slim, as well as with Chuck Berry, Steve Miller, Gregg Allman, George Thorogood, Charlie Daniels, and Commander Cody & the Lost Planet Airmen. Vernazza also spent years with blues-harpist Norton Buffalo and his band the Knockouts, as well as playing with the Elvin Bishop band for six albums, being heard on tunes like the 1976 hit “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” (which rose to number three on the charts) and “Struttin’ My Stuff.” At his 1970s-era peak, Vernazza played around three hundred dates a year while appearing on music television shows of the day like The Midnight Special. He earned a gold record (500,000 sold) for his signature guitar part on “Fooled Around and Fell in Love,” and the song can be heard in numerous movies, including Boogie Nights and Big Daddy.

T-Chronic Album Release at The Holding Company

August 27

Travis Cronan, AKA T-Chronic, first came to local notice fronting the roots-rock/hip-hop band Strictly Skunk, as well as working with Sound of Sage. Fusing hip-hop with reggae rock and drawing inspiration from artists like Eminem, KRS-One, and Wax, his lyrics convey a message of spiritual awareness, interconnectedness, and overcoming fear through his music, which he views as a universal language for unity and positive change. The Ocean Beach performance is an album release party for his new full-length Phoenix Chapter 2, the follow-up to his 2020 album Phoenix Chapter 1. The bill includes Bellafiore, Atlantis Rizing, Mally, Carlie Rose, and TenJ, with DJ Wake ‘N’ Bake spinning between sets.
