Frontman Jon Foreman captivated the crowd from the beginning exclaiming, “This night belongs to us!”
San Diego natives Switchfoot made a triumphant return to the main stage at the San Diego County Fair. Opening night saw the band in fine form as they delivered a tight set of favorites and previewed material from their upcoming album, Where the Light Shines Through.
The band started strong with hits such as “Stars,” “Who We Are,” and “Love Alone Is Worth the Fight.” Lead singer/guitarist Jon Foreman explained that the song spoke to some of the tensions between him and his brother/bandmate Tim.
Foreman captivated the crowd from the beginning exclaiming, “This night belongs to us!” The crowd and the band seemed to feed off of each other, each expecting something special and winding up fulfilled.

Switchfoot rocked the classic “Meant to Live” and then surprised everyone with an acoustic version of “Hello Hurricane,” featuring guest musician Rob Machado. The musicianship was tight and the crowd responded with constant sustained cheering and applause. Foreman and crew provided an evening of graceful, powerful rock and roll. The music was at once hopeful, uplifting, gritty and the coastal night was beautiful — a perfect kickoff to summer.
