Fangoria meets post-apocalyptic perfection

Turbo Kid

Turbo Kid (Canada, 2015, Epic Pictures Releasing) caught me by surprise just by the simple review I read: “Mad Max on BMX Bikes!” After reading that, I needed to see it. Simply put, it’s Fangoria meets post-apocalyptic perfection. The action was good, the story was good, and the gore, oh the gore, was amazing and over the top. The comedy was a welcome addition and the actors were great. Available on iTunes and Vudu.

Maggie (USA, 2015, Lionsgate) was a surprise. Arnold Schwarzenegger shows a different side of his acting skills. I went into it thinking, Here’s Arnold doing another action film but with zombies. But what I saw was a man pushed to his limits trying to keep his daughter normal and not allowing her to become a monster herself. The tone is up there with 28 Days Later. It’s a change from the everyday hack-and-slash zombie film and shows what one would do in a situation like this. Available on Hulu.
