Monday 1
The Steph Johnson Trio with Rob Thorsen and Fernando Gomez play the Lyceum Theatre (79 Horton Plaza) from 12 to 1 p.m. in a free concert.

Tuesday 2
Ben Wanicur leads a trio with Robert Dove and Matthew Smith for the jam session at 3rd Space (4610 Park Boulevard) from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. $5 at the door... Bobby Bradford makes a rare San Diego appearance joined by Vinny Golia and Mark Dresser at the Loft with the Ecosono Ensemble opening. 8 p.m. Free to UCSD students, $10 general admission...

Wednesday 3
Gilbert Castellanos has two gigs tonight, both at Panama 66 (1450 El Prado). First, he presents the Young Lions Series from 6 to 8 p.m. Then, he leads the jam session from 8:30 until 11 p.m. All ages, no cover, no minimum.

Thursday 4
Fresh Sound presents Lisa Moore: solo piano at Bread & Salt (1955 Julian Avenue) at 7:30 p.m. $15 general admission $10 students… Athenaeum Jazz presents the Myra Melford/Ben Goldberg Dialog at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library (1008 Wall Street) at 7:30 p.m. $26 general, $21 members, $15 student rush… The San Diego Symphony presents Ben Folds with music by Gilbert Castellanos, Joshua White, Rob Thorsen, and Ryan Shaw, Onstage at the Quartyard (1102 Market Street), 6 p.m. No cover charge.

“Jazz crooner” Jason Hanna leads a trio with Alex Ciavarelli and Mark Lamson for the Happy Hour at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle North) from 5:30 p.m. No cover, no minimum… Joshua White reprises (((Codes))) for Black History Month at the Loft (911 Lyman Lane) with Dwight Trible, Brandon Owens, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, and Josh Johnson at 8 p.m. $12 at the door… The Lorraine Castellanos Trio with Joey Carano and Mackenzie Leighton play the Westgate Hotel (1055 Second Avenue) at 8 p.m. No cover, $20 food/drink minimum… The San Diego Ballet presents an evening of jazz and dance at the Lyceum Theatre with Gilbert Castellanos Quintet at 8 p.m. $20–$50. 8 p.m… There’s a solo saxophone gig featuring Drew Ceccato at the UCSD Experimental Theater (9500 Gilman Drive) at 7 p.m. No cover charge.
