Carlsbad Music Festival & Village Music Walk
Performers will include: Roomful of Teeth, a New York-based vocal octet dedicated to re-imagining singing in the 21st century. Caroline Shaw, Roomful of Teeth member, singer, composer and violinist, who in the spring of 2013 was the youngest winner ever of the Pulitzer Prize in Music for her composition Partita for Roomful of Teeth. Claire Chase, Leucadia native, flutist, 2012 MacArthur Foundation Genius Grant winner, and Founder and Director of the International Contemporary Ensemble. Steven Schick, UCSD Distinguished Professor and conductor of the La Jolla Symphony, is internationally known as one of the premier solo percussionists in the world. Also appearing: The Calder Quartet performing “Physical Property” with guitarist/composer Steven Mackey. A performance by Peter Sprague's Bop Moderno featuring fellow San Diego jazz luminary Gilbert Castellanos. Performances by local bands including Trouble in the Wind and The Mattson 2. Performances by musicians from the Center for World Music including Mexican folkloric group Son de San Diego. Nathan Hubbard/Passengers cross-genre grooves.
