San Diego Music Thing starts this weekend on September 14-15. The Music Thing is an annual music conference hosted at Lafayette Hotel (2223 El Cajon Blvd) for musicians and music lovers that is part workshop with panels trade shows, performances, listening stations, and part music festival.

On Friday, workshops run from 11:30 a.m. through 5 p.m. and include "How to Pitch Your Band," "The Business of Touring," and "Music Publishing: The New Frontier," and ends with a talk by Martin Atkins who has worked with Nine Inch Nails and Ministry. On Saturday, legal workshops on the music industry, "Got Management?", "Songwriting," and a talk at 5:15 p.m. by Chuck D of Public Enemy will be held at the Lafayette Hotel. In the evening, over 150 bands including Pinback, Wildcat! Wildcat!, The Kabbs, Dr. Seahorse, and Get Back Loretta will perform at Bar Pink, Claire de Lune, The Casbah, Soda Bar, U-31, Whistle Stop, The Office, The Can Ale House, Sunset Temple Room, and Eleven.
