Rad Patio: Redwing on the Sabbath

In order to evade the prospect of toiling on the Sabbath, I made my way to the rad patio at Redwing Bar and Grill in North Park yesterday afternoon for a burger and dollar beers.

In addition to the weekly $1 twelve-ounce Bud/Lights and burger special (2 to 6 p.m.), a grill was smoking away on a back patio ornamented with patriotic doo-dads in order to further the celebration of our nation’s freedom -- cooking auxiliary burgers, hot dogs, and pork ribs.

Redwing’s grill offers premium bar food including hot wings, fried things (zucchini, poppers, mushrooms, cheese, potatoes, onions, calamari, etc.), sandwiches, salads, and specialty dogs.

Elaborating on an already righteous concept, the Pig Out dog is double bacon-wrapped then deep fried, while the Pucker Up comes with warm ’kraut and Swiss cheese on a French roll -- spicy mustard on side.

But this burger was great, too.

Tall bamboo shoots adorn the sun-soaked patio, where you can order food and drinks from the outdoor bar while a Bud Light sign encourages you to “Be yourself” from a rainbow-toned neon logo.

Accordingly, the prevalent fashion sensibility is exemplified by chains, padlocks, leather vests, Doc Martens, camo cargo shorts, and even a pair of white high heel lace-up boots, telling of the Redwing’s evolution into the night.

Check out Redwing’s Taco Tuesdays with $3 margaritas and karaoke, and sing Vicente Fernandez.
