Budget hotels in San Diego rank among the worst in the country, according to a survey by cheaphotels.org. The survey asked guests at budget hotels in 25 major U.S. cities to rate their accommodations, in terms of "overall quality" as average, neutral, or negative.
San Diego's budget hotels finished second-to-last, just in front of Los Angeles with 35 percent of guests giving a negative rating, 32 percent were neutral, and 33 percent said they got what they paid for.

And Washington, DC ranks highest? That makes me question the whole thing. It is hard to know about hotels or motels in one's own city. After all, if you live here, you would seldom or never stay in one unless your home were rendered uninhabitable by a fire, flood, tree fall, or termite tenting. I'd often suspected that hotels here were overpriced. This study confirms that.
