There is compelling jazz and new music to experience three nights in a row this weekend.
Sept. 12, Tonga Ross-Ma'u at Dizzy's
Multi-instrumentalist Ross-Ma'u will be playing the piano, focusing on his original material with a trio of top-flight improvisers, including Antar Martin on the double-bass and Fernando Gomez on the drums. Concert begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $15. Located at 4275 Mission Bay Dr.
Sept. 13, Eric Byers
Concert promoter Bonnie Wright's series debuts with a performance of solo cello with electronics at new venue Bread & Salt, located at 1955 Julian Ave in Logan Heights. Gilbert Castellanos Trio
The trumpeter performs at the Westgate Hotel in the Plaza Bar with guitarist Graham Dechter and bassist Katie Thiroux. This room only seats about 30 people and the sound is gorgeous. Arrive early for best results. No cover, $20 food/drink minimum.
Sept. 14, Steph Johnson Trio
