Landslides are Preventable Tragedy (EL MEXICANO, 9/17/12 by Lucía Gomez Sanchez)

TIJUANA, BC - "What happened did not have to occur", said Alfredo Escobedo Ortiz, State Civil Protection Director, in reference to the collapse that killed three members of a family in the colony on May 10. He explained that once again a slope cut without advice ended in tragedy, this time ending the life of a father and his two sons. In Tijuana, there are about 20 areas in danger of sliding. There are regulations that must be followed to make safe earth movements, he noted.

Fallen Power Pole Causes Chaos (EL MEXICANO, 9/17/12 by Lucía Gomez Sanchez)

TIJUANA, BC - A power and light pole fell on Boulevard South Cuauhtémoc and its cables laid across most of the roadway causing significant chaos for travelers. Located near the entrance of Chula Vista colony, municipal police units were needed to direct traffic.

In addition, traffic lights located in that area, including the intersection of Boulevard Agua Caliente lost power. Caution is recommended when driving in the area until repairs can be made. Remember to yield the right of way.
