The Story of Rosarito’s Bilingual Church By Tony Brogdon Calvary Chapel has emerged from its humble beginnings in a small living room in 2002 to its new worship center located in the center of Rosarito alongside the Scenic Highway. Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational, fully bilingual Christian Church. Its current facility, which it moved to one year ago, has a seating capacity of over 800 people, with 2 services on Sunday morning and one on Wednesday night. Senior Pastor Michael Vincent, 34 at the time, moved to Rosarito with his family in 2002 to start a bilingual non-denominational Church. Mike hardly knew anyone here and at the time, and could not speak Spanish. This move took a lot of faith and courage. Over time, the uniquely bilingual congregation began to grow. The challenge of blending Mexican Nationals and US Citizens and everyone in between has been phenomenal. The Church eventually moved to a small store front, and over time, the past 11 years the congregation has grown from 10 to 50, to 100 to 1000. Currently an estimated 1200 people attend the two Sunday morning services at 9 am and 11 am. Calvary Chapel has 6 a staff of six full time Pastors and 20 employees serving in a variety of ministries the church provides. The church has a major focus on outreach which includes working with other local organizations assisting the needy in building homes, providing food, and meeting other needs. The Church also has a Bible College, free marriage and counseling services, marriage courses, a complete Children’s program, and music program. From time to time, the church brings in internationally known Christian music groups that provide free concerts to the church and community. The church services at Calvary are causal with contemporary music. The messages are in English translated to Spanish and are relevant to the problems and challenges that people face today. For those US Citizens who live here or visit on a regular basis, Calvary Chapel provides a support system and church family to help you adjust and feel at home here in Mexico. Calvary Chapel Rosarito welcomes people of all non-denominational backgrounds and faiths, and would like to invite you to visit their church.
