SDSU: crime abounds
All of that and SDSU isn't even a top 15 party school any more.— November 23, 2012 9:30 a.m.
Romney gossip
Unless I'm mistaken, the '62 governor's race was when Nixon said to the media, after getting his ass kicked by Moonbeam's father, "you won't have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore", or at least something close to that. Not exactly a prophetic statement.— November 23, 2012 9:25 a.m.
Bob Hope's Palm Springs digs up for sale
Yeah it's a lot nicer. But you may not have thought so if you had seen it about 15 yrs ago. It was a disaster. The only reason it wasn't torn down is because Grant had lived there. A Dr from back east bought it and spent about 10 yrs and a ton of money restoring it. She had Leland Lee document the restoration. Some pretty cool Pics.— November 20, 2012 5:27 p.m.
Bob Hope's Palm Springs digs up for sale
Google, surfpuppy619. It's not hard to find. Second house on the right as you go up the last section of Southridge. The gate is about 1/2 mile up from Palm Canyon. Updated info that I looked into this afternoon It was most recently owned by Alison Janney. She bought it 5 or six years ago. It wasn't in foreclosure when we saw it, she was just trying to sell it. Apparently it was in escrow around the first of the year but it fell out. It was finally foreclosed on about a month ago and put on the market.— November 20, 2012 4:53 p.m.
Bob Hope's Palm Springs digs up for sale
Scott Marks, I don't recall that the Hopes ever lived in the Southridge Drive house. Bob hated the house. They owned a couple of others in the area and usually stayed at the Thunderbird CC house. In any event, Dolores rarely visited PS after Bob's death. After her stroke a couple of yrs before her death, I believe she didn't go back out to PS at all, she pretty much stayed at her Toluca Lake home which is where she was when she passed. Personally, I always preferred the William Holden estate, just down the hill. We saw it when it was being listed a couple of yrs ago. When last I checked, it was still on the marked at $2.25, which is less than half of what the bank originally was asking for it.— November 20, 2012 9:42 a.m.
Buddy Black's future ensured by Padres ownership
refriedgringo, I believe Buddy had 116 loses, not 16, And as for helping the Royals win the WS, I believe that he lost the only game he pitched, giving up 2 HR and 3 earned in the 5 he pitched. So you know, with the helping, maybe not so much. But don't get me wrong. As a lifelong Angels fan, I am a fan of Bud Black as a pitching coach and even though I'm not a Padres fan, I think he's done a lot with what he has had, was very deserving of the 2010 NL Manager of the Year Award, so I'm glad he's staying put. http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2012/nov/2…— November 20, 2012 9:21 a.m.
Bob Hope's Palm Springs digs up for sale
Well, everyone has their own tastes, burwell. But I think you have to put it in a certain context. Unless you are REALLY old, you didn't see Hope during the height of his popularity back in the 30's and 40's. He was extremely popular at the time and made a good deal of money, at least for that time. But Hope's real wealth, no pun intended, was in real estate. Bing Crosby got him into real estate back in the 30's. He owned land in LA, the Valley, Malibu, Palm Springs and Phoenix. He also had investments in a lot of oil wells in the LA area. How much would 80 acres of undeveloped land in Rancho Mirage be worth today? Hope bought a bunch of land in the PS area as far back as the 40's and donated 80 acres in the late 60's for Eisenhower Medical Center. I can't attest to the accuracy, but literally hundreds of times I have read or have heard that at one time Hope may have owned as much as 7500 acres in Malibu. Real Estate baby, real estate. That's where hope made his millions.— November 20, 2012 7:51 a.m.
Lawyer Steigerwalt Suspended a Year
Frega also went to prison. He was given 41 months, but later had the sentence reduced by a year by enrolling in and completing a substance abuse treatment program. He actually wasn't disbarred. He had his license suspended and then resigned from the bar a couple of weeks after his appeal was denied . The other judge was Micheal Greer. He got probation in exchange for his testimony against the others, if I remember correctly.— November 19, 2012 7:17 p.m.
Bob Hope's Palm Springs digs up for sale
You missed it by just a little bit, surfpuppy619. It was listed originally at $9.2 million and sold 2 1/2 yrs later, after only 3 price cuts btw, for $5.2 million. It was bought by an out of town couple who saw the for sale sign when they rode by it on their bikes. If you know PS, it's just off N Palm Canyon In the Old Las Palmas neighborhood, right across Palm Canyon/Indian Canyon from the Colony, and about 5 minutes from the home that Marilyn Monroe owned out there.— November 19, 2012 6:55 p.m.
VHS Blowout!
If it wasn't for the porn industry, BETAMAX would have been the standard. And then who knows??? We still have a Sony SL-8200 and a Sony SL-HF2100. Both still work great and we still have 3 or 4 dozen tapes, mostly music. Try and find a 30+ yr old VHS player and tapes that still play.— November 19, 2012 9:04 a.m.
