Rumors: More Layoffs at U-T
The Copley Curse is a hex that keeps on giving. Creators Syndicate, the Los Angeles-based company that purchased Copley News Service in June 2008, today laid off seven of its 21 employees, including three of the four former Copley employees hired at the time of the purchase. Had those former Copley Employees not been offered jobs by Creators, they would have received a generous severance package of two weeks pay for every year with Copley, benefits for the length of the severance package and re-employment counseling. Now, they get two weeks severance and bupkis. Good luck to those Union-Tribune employees laid off today by Platinum, they look to get the same bupkis.— August 11, 2009 2:20 p.m.
