Florida Man Shot Outside Rosarito Beach Bakery
Re #5: He lives here. Since absolutely NO ACCURATE NEWS is covered from Tijuana in English anymore unless headless corpses are involved, and since every newspaper and magazine in the universe writes a story quoting sources when they use them, and since Frontera doesn't have an English edition, and since you are only presuming how much stringers are paid (much less than the fact that it takes 2 days from submission to publication online because the Reader is a WEEKLY), you might want to back off from your misplaced indignation before you give yourself an unnecessary stroke. If not for a few of the Baja stringers in the Reader, no one north of the big metal fence would ever read anything that happens down here unless a lot of dead people were involved.

Tijuana Kentucky Fried Chicken Stops Accepting U.S. Dollars
Were that the case, then all KFC stores in Baja would be posting similar signs. To my knowledge, this has not occurred. The store in question appears to be located on Avenida Revolucion, so it figures that perhaps it would be commonplace for them to surpass $7,000 per month in sales using U.S. Dollars. But I agree, millions of U.S. Dollars are likely smuggled into the U.S. and laundered there in various ways. Here's another thing to consider: Funny accounting aside, Mexico simply doesn't have the manpower to audit all of these businesses, regardless. Many product deliveries are computerized (even to bars, imagine that) but the government still audits non-electronically. It could be that this particular KFC franchise owner knows that he'd be made example of if he was caught. I have no idea where the nearest KFC is in my location, but I live many, many miles from any tourist area. Next time I'm out and about I'll have to check and see.

Tijuana Kentucky Fried Chicken Stops Accepting U.S. Dollars
I don't even see it as a POV story, it's pretty much straight-up what everyone has been looking for in these parts since the government put the law into effect. The only thing anyone living in Mexico would ever possibly need U.S. dollars for are purchases of privately owned vehicles and paying rent. Most Mexicans (even if they work in the U.S.) aren't affected by it unless they are in real estate or have business interests in the tourist areas.

Tijuana Kentucky Fried Chicken Stops Accepting U.S. Dollars
Not understanding how this is political. Mexico passed a law where only $ 7,000.00 U.S. can be converted into pesos each month by any one business. Not for politics (they love the dollar here), but to stop the cartels from laundering money.

Tijuana Kentucky Fried Chicken Stops Accepting U.S. Dollars
You're correct on both counts ;) It's silly that Mexico thinks it will make a difference limiting exchange at $7,000.00 per month, when it's perfectly legal for any one person to cross into the U.S. with $9,999.99 per day! Businesses that keep legitimate books (only the KFC's and McDonald's and Carl's Jrs.) are supposed to account for their sales in terms of currency type. For the rest it's hardly even a nuisance. I call it the Christopher Columbus accounting method. Columbus kept two ship's logs: One phony one for the crew to access (which ironically turned out to be almost entirely accurate), and his own private one (which was incredibly incorrect). Most Mexican companies (small to mid-range) keep two sets of books: One for the government, and one for themselves.

DeMaio Blind to One Thing: Greed
Re #66: You know what a sock puppet is - you take an old sock and put it on your hand and make a puppet out of it by drawing a face on it. A 'sock puppet account' is a different account made by a user with the intent of passing themselves off as someone else. In other words, one user with a dozen different email accounts could create 12 different users. The last 11 identities created would be sock-puppet accounts, usually meant for mischief.

THOUGHTS OF MY DAD ON VETERANS DAY
Re #4: It isn't that simple SP. Sounds like he tried. Fantastic story, just the same.
— November 11, 2010 8:29 p.m.
Tijuana Kentucky Fried Chicken Stops Accepting U.S. Dollars
Many Mexican businesses do much more than $7,000.00 per month. KFC is a U.S. held franchise, I fully expect others to follow in their footsteps. Mexican businesses unattached to the U.S. will find ways around this new limit.

"Your endless comments week after week after week to everyone and anyone who writes an article for the Reader gets real old real fast." Wow, are you speaking for everyone? I never knew. No one has ever become upset with me on the internet before. Allow me to shed a tear. Okay, finished. "Do either of you actually have a life or is your life just a series of comments about articles in the Reader." You really should learn to finish sentences that are questions with a question mark. I hear that Grossmont College has some excellent courses in English. "My advice to both you idiots, finish your G.E.D., get a bus pass and come out of your mothers basement long enough to take a class at Grossmont College." Oh, that's where I heard about Grossmont. Um. Let's see... I finished college in 1983. So far as a bus pass, the buses only accept cash here. I prefer taxis anyway, thanks just the same. I've never seen my mother's basement, only pictures of it. I haven't been back in Tennessee since they moved there. Does that count as 'getting out?' "In other words: GET A LIFE" Yeah, well, I'm not the one who climbed in on my man-hating high-horse and told everyone here how to act. You might want to take your own advice on that one. Or, perhaps, take an anger-management class. And seek counseling, you obviously have unresolved issues.

If not for a few of the Baja stringers in the Reader, no one north of the big metal fence would ever read anything that happens down here unless a lot of dead people were involved.— November 13, 2010 12:05 a.m.
Next time I'm out and about I'll have to check and see.— November 12, 2010 9:51 p.m.

I don't even see it as a POV story, it's pretty much straight-up what everyone has been looking for in these parts since the government put the law into effect. The only thing anyone living in Mexico would ever possibly need U.S. dollars for are purchases of privately owned vehicles and paying rent. Most Mexicans (even if they work in the U.S.) aren't affected by it unless they are in real estate or have business interests in the tourist areas.— November 12, 2010 5:15 p.m.
Tijuana Kentucky Fried Chicken Stops Accepting U.S. Dollars
Not understanding how this is political. Mexico passed a law where only $ 7,000.00 U.S. can be converted into pesos each month by any one business. Not for politics (they love the dollar here), but to stop the cartels from laundering money.— November 12, 2010 2:47 p.m.
Most Mexican companies (small to mid-range) keep two sets of books: One for the government, and one for themselves.— November 12, 2010 6:14 a.m.
The last 11 identities created would be sock-puppet accounts, usually meant for mischief.— November 11, 2010 9:37 p.m.

Many Mexican businesses do much more than $7,000.00 per month. KFC is a U.S. held franchise, I fully expect others to follow in their footsteps. Mexican businesses unattached to the U.S. will find ways around this new limit.— November 11, 2010 4:36 p.m.

And seek counseling, you obviously have unresolved issues.— November 11, 2010 4:31 p.m.
