City Attorney Jan Goldsmith has a history of prosecuting activists who scribble chalk on public sidewalks
See link above. City attorney only prosecutes misdemeanors for Poway.— July 2, 2013 2:08 a.m.

Wrong. The San Diego city attorney prosecutes misdemeanors that happen in Poway: http://www.poway.org/Index.aspx?page=228 Don't know why or how the arrangement is funded, but that's the way it is. I think this arrangement pre-dates Goldsmith.— July 2, 2013 2:07 a.m.

Oh Fred. I've missed your ramblings from the alternate universe in which you live!— July 2, 2013 2:05 a.m.
Late David Copley's yacht sold
Sorry, Pup of Pap, the facts don't fit your narrative. Of course the U-T was right wing under David Copley. But it was the San Diego brand of moderate-to-conservative right wing. The U-T endorsed Democrats on occasion and was moderate on issues like gay rights. The Copleys prized gentility and genteel conservatism. The Manchester brand is different. Unlike under Manchester, the Copley editorial page would never have declared Obama to be the worst president of all time or shilled for the tenets of the anti-Obama movie or run pro-DeMaio editorials on the front page. There is a difference between the types of right wing that these publishers represent. The divide reflects the battle within the GOP itself over the ascent of the Tea Party.— June 29, 2013 6:04 p.m.
Late David Copley's yacht sold
There are plenty of wealthy people who waste their money on dumb things. This one also gave very generously to charity and prevented layoffs at the U-T much longer than many other publishers. He obviously grew up in a family that was difficult, to say the least, and he struggled with a lot of personal issues and loads of public mockery. (There's no missing the anti-gay tone in a lot of the criticism of him, some of which - and this is rich -- comes from fellow La Jollans.) He still managed to be a kind and generous man who never steered his newspaper in the sharp rightward direction that it's taken under Papa Doug. In death as in life, he deserves some sympathy instead of a lot of clucking from the gawker crowd.— June 29, 2013 4:57 p.m.

"The San Diego City Attorney has jurisdiction to prosecute all infraction and misdemeanor offenses arising out of city ordinances. In addition, with the district attorney's consent, the city attorney shares jurisdiction with the district attorney to prosecute misdemeanor violations of state law that have occurred within San Diego city limits. (Cal. Government Code, § § 41803.5, 72193; Charter of the City of San Diego, § § 40, 40.1.)"— June 28, 2013 10:40 p.m.
Normal Heights’ “sewer line project from hell” addressed
The city botched the project, caused unnecessary hassles for the residents on and around these streets (like me), and failed to communicate properly about what was going on. This isn't a case of locals being whiny.— June 27, 2013 7:52 p.m.
Jurors selected, trial begins in case of anti-bank protester
So the U-T "decided to report on this to smooth out the bad PR for Goldsmith." Golly. The third paragraph of the story sure looks like a Goldsmith whitewash: "If the city loses the case, it might be chalked up to jurors who question if the city should be spending taxpayer money bringing charges against someone who plied his activism -- or vandalism -- using something that can be easily washed away with a hose."— June 26, 2013 7:29 p.m.
He chalks the line: City Attorney prosecutes man for writing anti-bank slogans in water soluble chalk
Much as I love "Newhart" references, it's really rich to see an anonymous commenter make fun of someone else's actual real name. And I'm loving this business: "Eermahgerd, he worked for the Costa Mesa Police Department, which is corrupt. Do the math!" It has such a nice "fellow traveler" ring to it. Are you or have you ever been... I live in San Diego, but I'm not J. David Dominelli. Or... am I? We lived in the same city! At the same time!— June 24, 2013 6:58 p.m.
Bad service in San Diego
