Car dealer Marc Chase led swinging, violent lifestyle, suit claims
Certainly we are all shocked, shocked. And "what if none of the allegations are true?" Um, well, maybe Mr. Potter WILL interview Jacquie -- if she allows it -- and I'll be right there, reading every scandalous word. This was a transcript of a lawsuit on the public record that was not suppressed by either Jacquie or her abusive lover -- pretty stupid, if you ask me. But then, these people clearly were never intelligent or discreet: they were into maximizing personal gain --including by funneling money illegally into prominent political campaigns.— January 27, 2014 9:12 p.m.
Car dealer Marc Chase led swinging, violent lifestyle, suit claims
Gosh, it's not just Mitt Romney living in the La Jolla neighborhood of Symbolic Motors, there's "Wolf of Wall Street" goings-on too. As for all this salacious detail, don't semi-smart people usually restrict public access to such court records? Pretty steamy stuff here, Readerwriter.— January 27, 2014 12:21 p.m.
Out-of-town money backs "out-of-town" hit
Natter, natter. When Birnam wood comes to the hill of Dunsinane: campaign finance reform could happen, I suppose, as it did in "Macbeth," but is it likely? No. Meanwhile, David Alvarez is an excellent mayoral candidate who is far better than those nameless persons who "were swept aside during the...runoff." Alvarez has had plenty of experience after four tumultuous years on City Council; David has represented his Council District admirably (unlike many other seat-warming, self-promoting Councilmembers;) Alvarez helped the fiery previous Democratic Mayor reach compromise with greedy warring hoteliers to benefit the Balboa Park Centennial; David was born, raised, educated, married and churched in San Diego; Alvarez is known for being intelligent, modest and proud of his Latino roots. Personally, I couldn't ask for more. And the public will have a voice -- by voting -- on Election Day February 11.— January 26, 2014 12:59 p.m.
Ex–pension-board members to rake in $5.4 million?
Three-quarters of a million taxpayer dollars for former Firefighters Union honcho Ron Saathoff who masterminded the simultaneous pension-hikes-cum-deferred-city-payments? Testament to America's Finest City's world-class chicanery!— January 24, 2014 1:24 p.m.
La Jolla Cove is becoming a sea lion cesspool
Tear down that sea wall! Building it long ago was a well-intentioned, wrong-headed, shortsighted, human intervention that today carries serious negative consequences for humans and sea creatures alike. A man-made masonry structure extending into the ocean from the coastal bluff? Get rid of it and restore the natural shoreline.— January 24, 2014 1:12 p.m.
Manchester and Wisdom face off in mayoral money race
in answer to Jay Berman: David Alvarez has had plenty of "management" experience. He managed to broker a community plan for Barrio Logan after years of City stonewalling even though Faulconer big-wigs are lying to get it repealed by hook or by crook via popular referendum. Alvarez managed to find a compromise between the swordspoint former Mayor Filner and intransigent hoteliers on sharing their fees to finance the Balboa Park Centennial. Mysteriously, that celebration has been put on ice, even though do-nothing former Mayor Sanders' flunkies continue to draw Centennial paychecks. (Sanders is a featured Faulconer-fan on TV ads this week.) Alvarez managed to win his City Council seat by defeating a Hueso-family machine Democrat. He worked harder and smarter and had more (integrity) to offer voters, just the same as now, when he's reportedly running ahead of Kevin Faulconer in the most recent mayoral poll. David Alvarez IS being supported by regular people and by labor unions (of regular working men and women) who are chipping in, walking and calling to support his campaign for mayor. That's a good thing. We need a change.— January 22, 2014 2:31 p.m.
Former SDPD detective wanted Chief Lansdowne out
All I can say is, you don't have to be a criminal to want to replace Police Chief Bill Lansdowne whose rogue cops like Officer Anthony Arevalos are costing us public confidence in the police force and a bunch of money in lawsuits.— January 22, 2014 1:54 p.m.
Councilmember Lightner mum on One Paseo development
Sherri "Mum on Everything" Lightner will be termed out after this round of "service" on City Council, and a good thing too. She barricades herself behind a wall of know-nothing staff and now seems even to have a "spokesperson!" The only thing Lightner openly opposes is having the Hillel Center built up on a vacant lot near UCSD in the Shores region where she lives. Lightner is a huge disappointment to community members who once relied on their City Council representative for information, mediation or advocacy. Better representation of neighborhoods was the rationale for district elections of City Council over citywide elections twenty-five years ago. I guess every "reform" has a downside.— January 21, 2014 1:16 p.m.
Salk stem-cell master says bye-bye to Barcelona
Esteemed stem-cell scientist Ispisua Belmonte could also be motivated to leave Barcelona, the main city in the unruly separatist-leaning region of Catalonia, because Catalan legislators recently formally petitioned the Spanish government to be allowed to run a referendum on independent nationhood. That, plus the Spanish economy has tanked.— January 20, 2014 1:04 p.m.
Qualcomm execs lining up for Faulconer
It figures: Qualcomm foes of Filner and friends of Fletcher line up behind Faulconer as the next best thing. If regular people want a say in the way this city is run after February, they'd better be planning to get out and vote for David Alvarez. Establishment money is flowing one way only -- to Kevin Faulconer -- in hopes of maintaining business as usual in San Diego.— January 16, 2014 10:39 p.m.
