I was born and raised in East Hampton, New York. I have always had an interest in nature, wildlife and art. I grew up doodling in sketchpads and school notebooks, but it wasn't until high school that I started taking it a bit more serious. I began taking art classes and pursued taking my talents to the next level. When I was 20, I began working at a private golf course in Naples, Florida. I spent the winter months working at the course doing outside operations from valet services to member assistance. In that time, I began taking a big interest in Florida's nature and wildlife, particularly the birds of prey, such as bald eagles, hawks and falcons. I would then spend the summer months in my home town working as an ocean lifeguard.
Most of my artwork during this time period consisted of graphite and acrylic on canvas, until I began documenting the wildlife I was finding by photographing it. Soon after that, I received my first digital SLR camera as a gift. At first, I was using it as a point and shoot to photograph birds, reptiles, other wildlife and landscapes, but it wasn't long before I started researching how to operate a camera manually. Then, I fell in love with photography as a creative outlet and a possible career. I started selling my work at local art shows and markets. During this time, I met wonderful artists and people who really enjoyed my photography. This gave me the confidence to go back to school for Photography. I enrolled in the Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division for my Associates of Science in Digital Photography.
I am now 28 years old and have lived in San Diego California for three years with my wife and beloved dog! I currently teach children the life-saving skill of how to swim. I work with kids ages 2 and up and with special needs children. I truly love my job! I have a great balance of work and art and I enjoy pursuing my artwork to the fullest.
In regards to photography, I specialize in long exposures and wildlife. I love capturing the motion of water, whether it be the ocean or cascading over rocks in the forest. I also love observing wildlife and photographing it with a shallow depth of field. Recently, I have been very interested in Astrophotography. I love photographing the stars, meteor showers, and the milky way. I also enjoy 'painting with light'. In addition to photography, I love doing portraits of pets and people in graphite and pastels! Outside of my work in art and drowning prevention, I love to travel to beautiful places and capture the beauty of mother nature.
I look forward to bettering my photography, learning new techniques, and meeting new artists and clients throughout this journey!
