I Love You, Man
This movie is really a must-see comedy! It didn't try too hard to be funny and really captured the man-man friendship. Paul Rudd's character is getting married and has no best man. He's never had a real guy friend before and so starts looking for one, but it's just not that simple and of course he meets some real weirdos - hilarity ensues. Luckily he happens to meet a cool guy played by Jason Segel who does a great job at being funny without going over the top. Most of the movie is about their growing friendship, letting loose and having fun. I can't wait to see it again!— March 23, 2009 7:11 p.m.
Star of the Sea Event Center
Mister Tiki is such a fun place for a group! They have pitchers of Mai Tai's and huge drinks with long straws for four. The atmosphere is like an underwater hawaiian party. The dim sum sampler appetizer was great, with goat cheese wontons, chicken potstickers and short rib gyoza. Everyone loved them and their entrees. There are some typical chinese dishes like fried rice and kung pao chicken, but they make them well. They also have Sushi rolls or cooked fish entrees. Overall, they are very accomodating for a large party and the food was great, although a little pricey.— March 21, 2009 7:20 p.m.
The Prado Restaurant
Prado has great food and a classy atmosphere. My boyfriend took me there for my birthday dinner and it couldn't have been any better. We started with the Trio of Skewers. Three different meats, each with their own amazing dipping sauce. Each meat could stand on its own to make a fantastic dish. He ordered Lamb and I ordered Steak - both perfectly cooked with great glazes and tasty original sides. To top it off the waiter, who had been really attentive and gave great food suggestions all night, brought out a birthday carmel flan with lit candles and all. I typically don't like Flan because of the texture but this flan was more like a cheesecake and tasted amazing. It was a great birthday dinner and I can't wait to go back.— March 12, 2009 12:09 p.m.
Masala Spices of India
Masala is the best Indian restaurant in downtown San Diego. I have eaten there many times and just thinking about it makes me want to eat there again. The atmosphere is very modern, sleek and dark. The food is kind of pricey, but well worth it. They have a great selection of various meats or vegetarian dishes as well as the best chutneys and naan. It's great for a date or special event, and I can't wait to go back.— March 2, 2009 2:44 p.m.
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Why are credit card companies always the bad guys? This movie is a classic "chick flick" with a handsome leading man and a cute, funny and likeable leading lady. She is literally addicted to shopping. Just as a drug addict needs his next fix, she needs more clothing/shoes/purses/accessories and pays no attention to her growing debt on her many credit cards. In an ironic twist she is hired to write a column advising people on their own finances and is a huge success. She continually hides from her debt, and literally hides from the debt collector. There were a few funny scenes in the movie, but if you are expecting a high fashion film such as Sex and the City, this is not even close. It felt much more like Legally Blonde, except even more cheesy. As a watcher of this film though, I came out of the movie wanting to go shopping, because buying things really does feel good! (I'm not in debt though)— February 21, 2009 7:23 p.m.
Rama
I didn't know I loved Curry until I had it at Rama. I have been to Rama once for a large party, and another time for a romantic dinner with my boyfriend. The atmosphere is very classy, modern and stylish and at the same time comfortable and private. Each table feels like a little private area. The menu is large enough to please everyone and has many meats and dishes to choose from. In the large party, we were able to order many dishes and share with family style orders. Everyone loved everything that we had ordered. The restaurant was even allowed us to bring in our own wine for a reasonable corkage fee. I would highly recommend Rama for a fun group, or romantic date.— January 3, 2009 5:38 p.m.
