SD Fringe: The Test and Mysterium: A Magic Show
We are so glad to see such media coverage of the Fringe Festival. This is our first time in the Festival and we're having a blast. ~Julianne Eggold, from the rock opera Garden Girl— July 1, 2016 8:56 p.m.
SD Fringe Festival: Garden Girl -- 07/01/16 at Rosewood Five, 1150 Seventh Avenue (basement), downtown
Garden Girl is a unique musical experience mixing a heartfelt story of coming of age and venturing out into the scary world. The music spans several genres - orchestral to indie rock, Dixieland to acoustic Nirvana-esque guitar. This relatable soul journey has depth, comedy, and adorable puppetry of singing vegetables. Garden Girl echoes the heart of Jim Henson and the spirit of The Wizard of Oz. Music collaborators include Angelo Moore (Fishbone) and Warren Fitzgerald (Oingo Boingo, Tenacious D, The Vandals). Special guest appearance by Angelo Moore of Fishbone scheduled for Saturday July 2nd. Writer/Director Julianne Eggold has several film, TV & theatre credits including writing, directing and songwriting for the Emmy nominated TV show, The Aquabats Super Show! (creators of Yo Gabba Gabba). She won Best No Budget Film for her short film Casualties in the Broad Humor Film Festival in Venice Beach. Julianne directed videos for the band Gogol Bordello and contributed footage for the band Rocket From the Crypt. Kylie Acuña, the lead actor playing Lily, began her start in musical theater with the California Youth Conservatory at age 9, in their production of the musical “13” and has been seen most recently as Dragon in Shrek the Musical in Portland. She is entering the 8th grade at Urban Discovery Academy in Downtown San Diego, and currently spends her time writing and recording music, surfing, attending concerts and rooting for the Padres. Kori Gillis plays the part of Eddie, a no-nonsense southern man who has important advice for Lily about her journey and self-discovery. The audience will be dazzled by his vocal prowess, which is no surprise knowing he is now the lead vocalist and choreographer with the entertainment company, Republic of Music, Inc. Kori previously enjoyed starring roles in the musicals Dames at Sea and City of Angels, and served as musical director for Naples Community Theater's production of Aida. He served in the US Navy, graduated from the Armed Forces School of Music in VA, and became a vocalist in the Navy Music Program, leading to solo vocal performances at Qualcomm stadium for the Chargers, and at Petco Park for the Padres, as well as countless performances as the lead singer of the navy rock band, The Destroyers. While stationed overseas as the lead vocalist for Navy Band Europe and Africa, Kori performed in over 30 countries for audiences on live TV and in radio. In Garden Girl, Kori brings his character to life with a rag-time song and dance number, paying homage to the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans. This is a family-friendly production, given PG-13 appropriateness by viewers. https://www.facebook.com/GardenGirlRockOpera A percentage of ticket sale proceeds to be donated to Pulse Victims Fund in support of LGBT civil rights. https://www.gofundme.com/PulseVictimsFund CONTACT: Julianne Eggold | (310) 728-9648 | [email protected] http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2016/j…— June 28, 2016 6:48 a.m.
