Weekly protests at General Atomics pass the one-year mark
I do not get the purpose of protesting the tool instead of the purpose the tool is put to. "Drones, drones, drones!", like if we just got rid of the technology behind UAVs, everything would be great. Free hint: "drone" does NOT equal armed, nor does it mean that the decision-making process behind it's use is any different than a plane,a helicopter, a cruise missile, whatever.— August 16, 2013 12:54 p.m.
Laura Fink's campaign role with Todd Gloria
If she was the only one bringing forward complaints against Filner, there might be a point to this. But she isn't... at least three others have come forward, and we have every reason to believe that many more women have been victimized. It isn't hard to understand at all why anyone in politics or business might be reluctant to come forward with charges against a Congressman or Mayor. There is far too much smoke around this issue to assume there's anything other than a roaring fire at it's heart.— July 25, 2013 1:04 p.m.
neighborhoods/la-mesa -- La Mesa
I'd rather see CCW issuance reform in California. Stop the "big county" Sheriffs from reserving the ability for self-defense to themselves, their family and friends, and their campaign contributors. Let average, law-abiding people defend themselves like ALMOST EVERYWHERE ELSE IN THE NATION! For crying out loud, Illinois (including Chicago) is soon to be shall-issue! Why are the lives of San Diegans any less valuable than any other American?— July 25, 2013 1:01 p.m.
Mayor Filner responds to Taylor Baldwin's on-air claim, "He made me feel cheap."
It couldn't hurt if women stopped "laughing off" Filthy Filner's advances, and loudly called him out on his despicable behavior in front of everyone present. "Laughing it off" only reinforces his notion that it's harmless, not a big deal, etc. Humiliate the pig. Do that a couple of times, and he'll most likely change, or at least take pains to hide what he is.— July 25, 2013 12:57 p.m.
Are the volunteers getting hosed?
This is for one reason, and one reason only... increase the power and control of government by mandating that firefighters are all "professional" (read: unionized), so that their dues flow into Democratic coffers and their numbers can be automatically counted on the Democratic side of any vote. There is nothing in the world wrong with volunteer fire departments. Funny how it's California which is so hell-bent on unionizing everyone, and also in close to, if not the, worst financial shape in the nation. Leave the politics out of it. Let firefighters fight fires instead of bureaucracies.— July 25, 2013 12:52 p.m.
Tijuana offers safe transportation for women
Ahh, another "men are the enemy, men are the problem, men are all rapists and attackers" line. Awesome.— July 25, 2013 12:47 p.m.
O.B. Town Council addresses July 4th “marshmallow wars”
We really need the police involved in this? You know why we have too many laws, too many police in too many aspects of our lives, too much government, too much regulation? It's because pretty much everyone who decries government abuses (Democrats love to cry about guns, expanding the welfare state, etc. while Republicans screech about abortions, marijuana and enforcing "family values") is in favor of big government when it comes to stopping something they disapprove of or mandating something they think is great but everyone else isn't smart enough to do on their own. And when you give government more power and money and control for that one issue you feel so strongly about, you're creating an inevitable situation where that bigger government is going to use that increased size and power to stop you from having marshmallow fights. And then to stop and search you to see if you're carrying contraband marshmallows, or anything else that other people have decided should be banned.— July 25, 2013 12:46 p.m.
Baja is back for visitors
We really need a good look at who is getting kidnapped, killed, head sawed off, etc. Where were they, when, doing what? I have a VERY strong feeling that, if any American tourists have been victims of crime, it's because they were in the wrong part of town at the wrong time, looking for things they shouldn't be looking for; or doing something fairly dumb like camping all by themselves at a remote beach. If you go to Mexico looking for drugs, hookers, etc. you can't act surprised when you find trouble. Have any tourists been grabbed from a resort, a winery, a museum, a downtown cafe, etc? I'll bet no.— July 25, 2013 12:40 p.m.
Destination Lindbergh; destruction Old Town
We really need to build another airport. Lindbergh is never going to be big enough. Keep Lindbergh around for some flights, and maybe have it shut down a little earlier and start up a little later. Have a trolley between Lindbergh and the new airport, and put that new one where there's plenty of room for infrastructure, runways big enough for the "jumbos" of today and tomorrow, etc.— July 25, 2013 12:32 p.m.
Local home values to rise 9.3% in next year, says zillow.com
I've been hearing radio ads by Armando Montolongo stating that, "Flipping is back". Between that and crazy appreciation figures... I'm going to go ahead and say the bubble's back. The precipitous drop in residential real estate values from '06 onward was not some artificial decline that is just now being "made up for"... it was a correction. It simply is not sustainable for house prices to be 8X, 9X, 10X the average annual income.— July 23, 2013 1:07 p.m.
