City attorney Goldsmith met with NASSCO shipbuilders
On the rare occasion that I stop for a signature gatherer, I shush them and read the language myself. I don't want to hear what they think it is, or what they'd like me to think it is… I want to know what the initiative actually is.— December 23, 2013 1:24 p.m.
Drones are humanitarian, misnamed, says General Atomics
A "drone" is an aircraft that's piloted remotely. That's it. It does not have to be armed with Hellfire missiles. Drones can be, are, and will be used for many things. I swear, some of the people who are constantly crying about "drones" would ignore the exact same attack if it was carried out by a manned aircraft. UAV hits a terrorist camp, and it's "Oh God no, DRONES DRONES DRONES!" F/A-18 hits a terrorist camp… and nothing. And most of these "wedding parties" are terrorist meetings… the enemy knows to pretend to be something innocuous so that American liberals will cry when they're killed.— December 23, 2013 1:16 p.m.
Dumanis campaign guru arranging TV spots for Faulconer
Wow. So Alvarez' positives are that he was born here, raised here, educated here, and that he isn't white. Golly gee, he's got my vote! On second thought, maybe it would be a good idea to try something other than what Bob Filner supporters think might be best for San Diego? Maybe we should try jobs and economic growth instead of unions and scandal? Naaahhh, that's crazy talk...— December 23, 2013 1:09 p.m.
Alleged tax dodger stole dead children's identities
Years ago, there were "how to get ID" books that explained looking for infants who had died around the time you were born, researching enough info to get copies of the birth certificates, and then using them to build identities. None of that could possibly work today. But I wouldn't be surprised if there are people today who have carefully cultivated alternate IDs, "just in case". Using them to commit crimes is just going to draw attention, like in this case. I doubt they'd be worth much other than as a one-time expendable... the moment a fingerprint is taken, the game is up.— December 15, 2013 9:54 a.m.
All Things BBQ: the Wrangler Family Barbecue
Anyone who thinks this place is even "good" BBQ doesn't know what BBQ is. Any other place in San Diego County that bills themselves as BBQ is going to be better than this place. I won't even waste time comparing it to *real* BBQ from VA, NC, St. Louis, Texas, etc. Twenty years ago, Wrangler was at least tolerable. Today? Simply awful.— December 15, 2013 9:49 a.m.
Lawsuit over wheelchair access at Torrey Pines Gliderport
Some people won't be happy until everything is torn down and replaced with single-story buildings with extra-wide hallways and no stairs and every edge padded and no discriminatory colors or sounds (such things aren't inclusive for the sight- or hearing-impaired). IT'S A FREAKING CLIFF!!! Of course it's going to be tough for you if you're in a wheelchair! Same is true with every single staircase in existence. How about all the hiking trails? Let's close them all down because someone in a wheelchair can't make it? There are some things in life that just plain aren't fair. We cannot guarantee that everybody can do everything equally.— December 15, 2013 9:42 a.m.
Lawsuit over wheelchair access at Torrey Pines Gliderport
Oh, stop it. THEY WERE UNDER CONSTRUCTION! You obviously knew that. It's unfortunate that you're in a wheelchair, but that does not mean the world is ganging up against you. Life isn't fair, and there is no way to make it so.— December 15, 2013 9:35 a.m.
City to pay illegally detained San Diego couple $450K
But what did the taxpayers of San Diego do wrong here? The two cops should be on the hook individually for their bad acts. Instead, we continually send a message... "It's OK for 'public servants' to do whatever they want, because the worst that will happen is the taxpayers write another checks while those who did bad deeds stroll off into the sunset with jobs and salaries and benefits and pensions safely intact" I wish I could have a job where I could do whatever I wanted to, and someone else wrote checks to cover the damages.— December 15, 2013 9:32 a.m.
Local real-estate tax hike totals less than a half percent
This is what we always here about tax increases. "Oh, it's only a little bit!" Well, so was the last one, and the one before that, and the one before THAT. And so will the next one, and the one after that, and the one after THAT. I wish the voters were smart enough to quit gulping partisan Kool-Aid long enough to simply agree that government must live within it's means, just like every one of us. We can't go to our bosses and demand a higher salary because we've been spending more. We'd get fired. So should the bureaucrats.— December 15, 2013 9:28 a.m.
Bob Filner lands on his feet as cartoon superstar
We should all be asking Dan Gilleon why he's suing the City of San Diego instead of Bob Filner, personally. Of course, the answer is, "That's where the money is". Even if the incident portrayed was worth $1, let along a half million, why should the taxpayers of San Diego pay it? Bob Filner's a jerk, but there's no actual harm here.— December 15, 2013 9:25 a.m.
