Chief Zimmerman talks pot
Most of the "homeless" have chosen to be that way, and should be handed a one-way bus ticket out of town. There are very, very few people who "just need a little help", because there is no shortage of "help" available for people "down on their luck". Most are crazy, drunks, and/or addicts, and frankly should be beaten out of town. San Diego is far too much of a magnet for bums as it is... every "service" we provide simply attracts more. We can either choose to make it clear to the "domicile-disadvantaged" that this is not the crash pad for them, or we can see their numbers multiply like cockroaches.— May 9, 2014 8:16 p.m.
General’s disregard for the warrior
How would we feel if a Mexican soldier came into the US and we found things we determined to be illegal in his car? Would we quickly cave in to Mexican pressure to let him go home, he just made a mistake? Or would we toss him into prison? I do feel badly for Mr. Tahmooressi He made a mistake. But what he did is a VERY serious crime in Mexico. The Mexicans are absolutely nuts about guns. Americans get in trouble for having a single round of ammo. Heck, people wind up in trouble trying to legally carry guns into Mexico for hunting trips! This isn't a big surprise. And I have to wonder how many people who are upset about this are also in favor of very harsh gun laws, or who actually pay attention to what happens when "only the military and police have guns".— May 9, 2014 8:04 a.m.
Nazi Low Riders on trial
Oscar Pistorius makes a lot of crying, wailing, and a tremendous amount of noise. Can we get the Nazi Lowriders to put him out of his misery?— May 7, 2014 12:18 p.m.
Electricity refund? Not in California
OH NO! Government regulation has failed! We had better have more government regulation! Forget competition or free markets or consumer choice... none of those things work! Only bureaucracy can save us!— May 7, 2014 12:15 p.m.
Spanish shipwreck from 1600s in Imperial Valley?

Cops naysay downtown opening of Phantom Lounge
Other people have done bad things! Now you must fill out a lot of paperwork and pay a lot of money to government, or we won't let you open... and the people who have done bad things will just keep on doing bad things!— May 6, 2014 12:05 p.m.
Manure stench plagues anti-Fletcher donor
I'm sure you're right about the manure. But the fencing would be over liability. If anyone were to just stroll on to the grounds, even break into the clubhouse, and get injured, there'd be a huge lawsuit. Especially for anything that could be deemed an "attractive nuisance". As for "compromising"... should that "compromise" include the homeowners buying part of the property to keep as open space? The whole problem here is that those people like the open space, but they don't want to pay for it, and there is ZERO requirement that the land be kept as such. They say "promises were made", but never in a legally-binding way. And if you buy property, any restrictions that are not codified at the time of purchase and disclosed to you cannot later become your problem. So, while I don't really think putting up a bunch of condos on what used to be the ECC is the "best" use for the land... it isn't my land to make that call. It belongs to SITR, and they have a perfect right to use it how they want. I'll be signing the petition for them to retain their property rights.— April 12, 2014 2:14 p.m.
Drywall company kicked off $6 million job
So... no allegations that the work wasn't up-to-par, or anything wrong was going on... only that paperwork hadn't been done and government hadn't been handed money.— April 12, 2014 1:54 p.m.
Workers, clergy pour into Clairemont Taco Bell to fight wage theft
Minimum wage is NOT SUPPOSED TO BE a "living wage". Want more? Earn more. Learn how to do something more useful than flipping burgers.— April 7, 2014 9:14 a.m.
The real reason Zimmerman got the SDPD chief gig?
Nothing new about the outgoing guy handing the job to a chosen successor. It's how Gore became Sheriff… it was known that Kolender was suffering from dementia, but he was run as an incumbent anyway. The voters blindly voted for the incumbent, and as soon as the election was over the job was handed to Gore and Kolender was shipped off to a home. Hooray, democracy!— April 7, 2014 9:12 a.m.
