The booted heel of a data state
I'm OK with license plate readers that read plates, see if they're on any sort of wanted list, and then forget about them. I am decidedly NOT OK with a scheme that keeps track of what license plates were when and where.— June 19, 2015 8:39 a.m.
Temecula doc opens up about Deputy's wound following Fallbrook taser incident
I say the little turd is lucky he only got Tazed. I'd have made him drink every drop of my pepper spray, and then beaten him until he forget how bad the capsicum burned.— June 19, 2015 8:38 a.m.
San Diego long-timers will bear water conservation burden
Removing lawns will accomplish NOTHING. Approximately half the state's water usage goes to 'the environment". That's off the table. About 40% (or 80% of what's left after we remove the "untouchable" "environmental" half) goes to agriculture. That, too, is off the table... we're told that they have "senior water rights", and because their great-great-great grandaddy got here 150 years ago them must be able to help themselves to all the water they want. So we're left with a mere 10% for EVERYTHING else. Of that, about 7% is for non-agricultural business and about 3% is for ALL residential usage. Even if every lawn and fountain in the state was ripped out tomorrow, the net effect would be a fraction of a percentage. Meanwhile, building permits are issued by the thousands and the tens of thousands. If you want to solve the problem, you have to address the actual problem, not the just the low-hanging fruit or your own preconceptions. If you aren't willing to address the actual problem, then taking meaningless half-measures isn't going to accomplish anything, even if that's "all we can possibly do".— June 1, 2015 4:35 p.m.
San Diego long-timers will bear water conservation burden
What remedy would you propose? Paying them even more? The people you named already make more than most everyone else, even before you consider the value of their health benefits and pensions. Would you agree that we could just make living within the service area a requirement for their job, and not allow them to choose to selfishly live somewhere with lower housing costs, thereby enriching themselves at our expense? I kinda doubt it... I bet you think the answer is yet more money.— June 1, 2015 4:29 p.m.
San Diego long-timers will bear water conservation burden
If there truly was a drought, there would be a moratorium on building permits until the water crisis had been addressed.— June 1, 2015 4:27 p.m.
Megan's Law, Step-Grandpa — deal with it
Any creature who would sexually abuse a child should be locked up for life, period. No second chances. If you're willing to do that, you're broken in a very fundamental way, and there is no way for the rest of us to know you won't choose to attack again.— June 1, 2015 4:24 p.m.
Climate-change education urged
Why don't we just stuff all of the deniers and heretics into work camps? Or start shooting them? That'll get everyone into line pretty quickly! It's ridiculous that we should have to do anything like prove our claims. After all, the science is settled! That's how progress is always made, by declaring that the matter cannot be discussed or examined any more! And then there's no need to waste time or energy providing proof, we can just get to the real solutions... higher taxes, more unionized government employees pouring money into the coffers of right-thinking politicians, and having more government control over the lives of the average peons who just aren't smart enough to run their own.— June 1, 2015 4:22 p.m.
This Chargers stadium proposal? Watch it.
Democrats always run on speeches like that... and nearly invariably are found to have lied. I'm certain Filner would be in this up to he ears, and probably explaining how his "hands were tied" and blaming Republicans and "big business" while eagerly handing out huge checks to the Chargers.— May 21, 2015 12:51 p.m.
Pit bull kills dachshund; Solana Beach man kills pit bull
Guy sounds like a psychotic who was out for revenge. He got off easy. It's one thing to defend yourself or your dog or property at the time of an attack, but to go looking for trouble? We're looking at the next George Zimmerman here... this won't be the last we hear of him. Hopefully he gets some anger management counseling.— May 21, 2015 12:48 p.m.
Hey, Doshay, they got your DNA
Bail is to ensure appearance at trial, not to start the punishment before that pesky waste of time known as a trial. It sure looks like this guy is a Grade A piece of garbage, and if he did this I sincerely hope he winds up locked away for life. But there are always people calling for the noose without bothering with the gavel, and I wonder how they'd feel if they'd been arrested for a heinous crime, and everyone else just knew they were guilty (because, after all, who gets arrested for child molestation except for child molesters, or rape except for rapists, or DUI except for dangerous drunks?), and everyone else was howling for them to be locked away right then and there, and that any defense they presented was instantly assumed to be lies and nonsense that just prove what sociopaths they are? Why would you need a scumbag defense attorney unless you're a scumbag criminal who's obviously guilty?— May 6, 2015 12:22 p.m.
