Mexico over the years
Does anyone have any confirmed stories of Americans who wind up robbed or dead in Mexico that didn't go there looking for trouble? And I do consider camping by yourself on a remote beach looking for trouble. I've never had anything happen to me in Mexico that couldn't or didn't happen in the US. But I also don't look for drugs or prostitutes or hang out in obviously bad parts of town. I'll be in Ensenada next weekend, and I fully expect to have nothing but a good time.— October 5, 2015 3:23 p.m.
This county is lousy for the disabled
Your namecalling shows exactly who and what you are and why you have the problems in life you do. Grow up, kid.— October 4, 2015 3:01 p.m.
My dog needs a rubdown — what's the problem?
Big Brother is proud of you. You're a good little statist. We'll all be better off when we all need permits to get out of bed, walk across the street, operate a microwave oven, etc. Think of the potential tragedy of allowing unpermitted people to pump their own gas or use a can of hairspray!— October 4, 2015 2:53 p.m.
Encinitas styrofoam ban unwelcomed
Yeah, everyone uses Styrofoam because they hate the environment and want their food to be poisoned. Nobody is going out of business because of your huffing and puffing. Styrofoam WORKS. That's why it's used. And what will cost business is moving away from something that works to something that doesn't. When there's a real alternative, business owners will flock to it, and Styrofoam will die, and nobody will care. But you cannot get rid of something that works (Styrofoam, cars, oil, whatever) until there's a REAL alternative. And there isn't.— October 4, 2015 2:50 p.m.
My dog needs a rubdown — what's the problem?
And people wonder how we wind up with hairdressers needing hundreds of hours of "training" and state licensing.— October 4, 2015 11:23 a.m.
Accounting and accountability awry in I.B.
"LaPausky said that when Richard Schaumburg went into the bank and asked how much money he had in his accounts, the bank teller mistakenly gave him the figures for the chamber’s account as well as his other accounts and he mistakenly withdrew the money that way. Two days later, “The chamber accounts were bouncing,” she said, but “it wasn't fraud and it wasn't embezzlement.” So the money was returned immediately... right? Oh, wait, that was another "mistake", he spent it by accident, and now doesn't have it any more, and he's really sorry but it isn't his fault and there's nothing he can do?— October 4, 2015 11:21 a.m.
Encinitas styrofoam ban unwelcomed
So everyone should suffer because a few people might do something bad? The heart of the liberal ethos right there.— October 2, 2015 10:30 a.m.
This county is lousy for the disabled
"We want to be treated just like everyone else! Until we want special treatment and services!" The cost of living in San Diego is high for EVERYONE! If you can't afford it, MOVE! And what's with this insinuation that the "disabled" are some kind of economic minority? In any other context, talking down to "those people" would be rude, paternalistic, bigoted, etc. But somehow we're supposed to assume that anyone who's in a wheelchair is doubly a "victim" of something. The most successful entrepreneur I know was getting around with crutches when I met him, and he wound up more and more in a wheelchair. I guess he spent more time thinking about how to start and grow a business than moaning about how the world was too cruel.— October 2, 2015 10:28 a.m.
Fantasy games are fantasy, not gambling
Why on Earth should it be illegal for consenting adults to gamble on sports? Yeah, it's an incredibly stupid thing to do, but do we really want the government telling us we can only do what's "smart" or "good for us"? Who gets to decide?— October 2, 2015 10:21 a.m.
SDG&E attempts brazen caper #2
Where are the government regulators who are supposedly so necessary to keep the private sector from screwing us? Oh, yeah, out to guarantee their own jobs and pensions, that's where. We don't need more bureaucracy, we need competition... something that has been prevented by government granting SDG&E a monopoly. Divorce transmission from delivery. Power lines, phone lines, cable, etc. should be the regulated public utility that is allowed to charge enough to build and maintain the infrastructure. Then let anyone who wants to offer power or TV or phone or Internet over those wires. A truly free market will always deliver the best solution.— September 28, 2015 12:23 p.m.
