How much does it cost to settle a refugee in San Diego?
"Too much" is the answer. If we are to accept hordes of "refugees", which I do not agree with, they should go somewhere that isn't one of the most expensive places in the nation, overbuilt, overcrowded, with insufficient water.— April 17, 2017 3:43 p.m.
Cambodians, Lao, Viet gangs terrorize Crawford, Horace Mann, Gompers, Lincoln, Kearny High School, Linda Vista
Thanks for a perfect example of why we should not be importing "refugees" from ANYWHERE, especially the Middle East!— April 10, 2017 4:09 p.m.
The Hedgecocks sue city over Pacific Beach sidewalk slip
I gotta find me a bad sidewalk somewhere. Like the jerk who was riding his bike so fast he was launched 28 feet and then skidded for another 10... what was it, about $5 million or so? he should have received a huge freaking ticket, not a check!— April 10, 2017 4:06 p.m.
Gunshots at Chip's Bar
Why does Mexico allow the NRA to hold them hostage? Lax gun laws, gun shows, gun stores, CCWs, guns everywhere... oh, won't anyone PLEASE think of the children?— April 10, 2017 4:05 p.m.
Former Chargers' intern struck by hit-and-run driver files claim against the city
Another shameless money grab. Soft-headed people who feel sympathy for him will think, "Oh, he needs the money so badly, and the City has so much, what can it hurt to give him a few million?"— April 10, 2017 4:03 p.m.
Supervisor embezzled to go to Super Bowl
And people wonder why Fry's searches their employees and keeps small, high-dollar items locked in cages...— April 10, 2017 3:59 p.m.
Supervisor embezzled to go to Super Bowl
Because if he wins the lottery, inherits, or otherwise comes into money, it can go to restitution. But I bet the IRS claims first dibs...— April 10, 2017 3:58 p.m.
Most San Diego booksellers close shop
I've always preferred a good old-fashioned dead-tree book that doesn't need batteries or charging, won't crash, can't be changed on me, no DRM, etc. The death of the bookstore, and then the book, is a sad product of technology :-(— April 4, 2017 12:04 p.m.
Will Chris Cate make things right at Clairemont and Balboa?
Who is this "Steve", and what standing does he have to have any involvement in this issue at all? The only information we have makes him out to be the nosiest busybody in the world with nothing to do in his life other than worry about other people's property.— April 4, 2017 11:51 a.m.
Under Faulconer, credit card abuse roils city hall
Where I work, there are very strict controls on purchasing things. In the past, there has been abuse, or the appearance of abuse. But it's gotten to the point that they pay far more to try to prevent abuse than they'd lose to abuse! If you buy anything on a credit card, there's a $750 charge to pay for the procurement machine. Result: if you're buying ANYTHING, you load up the purchase to as close to the max allowable charge as you can. An actual acquisition incurs far higher fees and leaves you asking for X, but then the procurement people "put it out for bid" even though they have no idea what you're actually getting. Sometimes, after all the money and waiting, what you get isn't what you expected at all and winds up excessed. It's much cheaper to accept that sometimes people will do bad things, and when you find them you fire them and charge them with a crime.— April 4, 2017 11:47 a.m.
