Comic-Con Photo Phunnies Day 1
Due to limited 'puter access during the Con, we'll be adding photos to each day's Photo Phunnies page over the course of the day and evening, so check back later on each day's blog post if you want to find the newest pics 'n' caps -

Get well cards can be sent to...
Danielle LoPresti, who was diagnosed six months ago with Stage III Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma that had metastasized to seven places across her body, has announced that she's in remission and will return to the stage for IndieFest in August, opening for headliner Cake.

Band ch-ch-ch-changes
In response to the allegations made by Subliminal Trip's J-Bird, No Kings guitarist Joel Brust (who declined our initial interview request) contacted the Reader after this article was published. “First off, J Bird never fired anyone, we quit,” says Brust. “I want that to be crystal clear, we were fed up with his lack of talent [and] with his brother’s inability to manage a band. We quit, we were never fired. I have several emails on my computer from [sole remaining Subliminal Trip member] Jason Becker [aka J-Bird] begging us to come back…after we quit Subliminal Trip, we found our friend Matt Cook and got him in as our new vocalist.” No Kings were unable to keep Subliminal Trip’s drummer, though. “About a year into the new project, it became obvious that due to his personal lifestyle choices, Colin Holz could no longer play with us...there were a lot of contributing factors but let’s just leave it at artistic differences.” Holz was replaced with Rafael Scatolin.

Lambesis posts (then removes) first public statement RE murder for hire
After Lambesis removed his Tumblr post, he went onto his Facebook page and explained "There were a couple posts in a row about a book discussion and parts of the latter were reposted out of context (it was not a press release by any means). Given the possibility of words being twisted on other sites, all posts have been taken down."

Bruck you, Masked Man! 4 cures for the common
Lone Ranger
For a character who was created solely as a vehicle to move related toys and knicknacks (one of the first such media/merchandise franchises in pop culture history), the Ranger sure has come a long way! I met former Lone-r Clayton Moore in the '70s at a comic con, when he was being forced to wear sunglasses instead of a mask due to litigation with the character's legal caretakers, and he seemed a heroic figure indeed, a worthy role model for kids AND adults akin to Roy Rogers and early sports stars before big money and bigger egos turned most such media celebs into raging, self-destructive a-holes. I'll go see the new movie, tho I still have trouble grokking why a guy called the LONE Ranger is getting second billing behind his "sidekick" (however iconic that sidekick evolved thanks to actor Jay Silverheels - the Ranger was still the undisputed star and main attraction back then) -

The Material on harsh realities and silver linings
Outtakes: WHAT’S YOUR POISON? Moreaux: “A good IPA.” D’Agostino: “If we’re talking big girl drinks, then it’s always a Captain and Coke for me.” Pintado: “Golden Road Hefeweizen.” Elam: “Coffee and Scotch. Not together though, that would be gross.” Meckley: “I’m a big craft beer guy.” FIRST BOOK YOU REMEMBER READING? Moreaux: “Grendel by John Gardner was the first ‘real’ book that I read, probably because it contained curse words.” D’Agostino: “Where the Wild Things Are. I don’t really think it had very much text, but I loved the pictures.” Pintado: “Damn, I’m not really a reader, to be honest.” Elam: “Where The Red Fern Grows. I remember loving that book as a kid.” Meckley: “So many Goosebumps books. People close to my age know exactly what I’m talking about.” WHO SHOULD PLAY YOU IN A MOVIE? Moreaux: “Phil Dunphy from Modern Family.” D’Agostino: “Noomi Rapace from the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She seems like a badass.” Pintado: “Jim Carrey. He’s my spirit animal.” Elam: “Johnny Depp. We don't really look alike, but I think he would make me seem more awesome than I actually am.” Meckley: “Ever imagined Ryan Gosling with a mohawk and tattoos? Yeah, me either. But it could work.”

Murder Most Foul....a murderers disquise
Quite a story - appears some of it has yet to be discovered and written about. Thanks for the interesting POV post -

In search of the high notes
I don't know much about altissimo and the sax, but after reading this account I think I have a better feel for this style of playing. This kind of web report would be great accompanied by video excerpts from the interview - it'd be great to hear what you guys are blowing about!

Trailerpark Rockstar, the Grass Heat -- 06/22/13 at Brick by Brick
"Richard Livoni, the founding guitarist of the Blitz Brothers is undergoing emergency surgery at an area hospital," says show promoter Dave Good. While Livoni recovers from his retinal detachment ordeal, this edition of Dave's Garage will instead feature Roni Nash & Purple, featuring Randy Seoul from Strawberry Alarm Clock on drums and Don Duckworth on bass. "Nash is the Blitz Brothers personal choice to fill their slot," says Good.

“About a year into the new project, it became obvious that due to his personal lifestyle choices, Colin Holz could no longer play with us...there were a lot of contributing factors but let’s just leave it at artistic differences.” Holz was replaced with Rafael Scatolin.— July 15, 2013 3:23 a.m.
Lambesis posts (then removes) first public statement RE murder for hire
After Lambesis removed his Tumblr post, he went onto his Facebook page and explained "There were a couple posts in a row about a book discussion and parts of the latter were reposted out of context (it was not a press release by any means). Given the possibility of words being twisted on other sites, all posts have been taken down."— July 8, 2013 7 p.m.
Bruck you, Masked Man! 4 cures for the common Lone Ranger
I'll go see the new movie, tho I still have trouble grokking why a guy called the LONE Ranger is getting second billing behind his "sidekick" (however iconic that sidekick evolved thanks to actor Jay Silverheels - the Ranger was still the undisputed star and main attraction back then) - http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/jul/0…— July 4, 2013 10:17 a.m.
But it could work.”— June 26, 2013 2:51 p.m.

In search of the high notes
I don't know much about altissimo and the sax, but after reading this account I think I have a better feel for this style of playing. This kind of web report would be great accompanied by video excerpts from the interview - it'd be great to hear what you guys are blowing about!— June 22, 2013 5:53 p.m.
"Nash is the Blitz Brothers personal choice to fill their slot," says Good.— June 21, 2013 6:22 p.m.
