Why vacancies in Hillcrest?
Too True.— June 5, 2018 7:48 a.m.
AirBnB, the elephant in the room
I think people should be able to rent rooms or give rides in their cars for pay. I also believe that they should pay the taxes and enjoy some of the expences that those in business also get to enjoy. If not just to pay their fair share, then so that they could learn why things cost what they cost. Fees, paperwork and expences, time and money to stay complient, and taxes on the money you bring in. That is also part of it. Many want businesses to carry the heavy load with taxes. OK, and that should include all businesses. Even single person business. Even the tech facilitators. So AirBnB and Ubers, do your part, play by the rules, and be part of the adult world.— August 12, 2015 10:49 p.m.
City attorney Goldsmith met with NASSCO shipbuilders
...you are makng an assumption that advice was given about how to overturn a land use decision. The meeting was requested to go over the referendum process. Something that others involved in this process could (should) have done as well. You are mistaken as to the role of the city attorney. Look up explaination from: Aguire, Mike. Every work day the city attorneys office meets dozens of people on dozens of issues. The City Attorneys office represents the city in all of those cases. The city attorney is not the private attorney for other elected officials. He and the office works for the city and it's residents while supporting the council and the mayor.— December 21, 2013 4:12 p.m.

DeMaio's men's room masturbation went unreported (updated 8/26)
The authoritarian personality helps BOTH right and left wingers to Get Elected. Bob is the recent case in point. It does not however help them to govern. In fact authoritarian attitudes get in the way of good governance; at least in my view.— August 24, 2013 9:31 a.m.
DeMaio's men's room masturbation went unreported (updated 8/26)
There was a reason that real news organizations didn't publish this story. Only one source, and that source was from a rival party, who knew of their candidate's past and "monsters". The writer could not get ANY one else from the Democratic party, or any party, to verify the charge. No credible source so no one published it during the election. This was as it should be. Likewise there were rumors about Bob before the election that could not get verified in time and were also not published. This also was as it should be. Now as the next election gears up it gets published. Sad. For a televised case study on unverified stories watch The Newsroom this Sunday on HBO. Any one who now believes the San Diego Reader is a source of verified news should reconsider. Sorry Reader, I enjoy you, but you are not my source for hard facts or news.— August 24, 2013 9:21 a.m.

Don, having been in the hallway by the rest room in question I can tell you that Ben's story does not seem credible. As for story being "pinned down" where is the verification from others? Story seems like a political plant to discredit a gay candidate. Just my opinion, Glenn— August 24, 2013 9:09 a.m.

Nathan Fletcher files for mayor of San Diego
KLoEditor, It will be a very interesting election. The last one was a predictable union vs pension reform fight. Some interesting contrasts this time and the issues have moved. Here is my view: The party bosses will determine the outcome based on who they support and who they can keep OUT of the race.— August 23, 2013 5:46 p.m.
DeMaio's men's room masturbation went unreported (updated 8/26)
Ben Hueso didn't want to use the story? Amazing. Marty Emerald also kept quiet? Humm. Why would that be? VOSD could not find a 2nd source? That I believe. In our new age of reporting I am glad that they are not running stuff that can not be verified. Now that this "story" is out there it's job is done. No need to verify. The damage is done. The short attention span voter is so easily swayed.— August 23, 2013 3:01 p.m.
