Put that in your pipeline and smoke it
Yes, we need just what you say, Don--but wouldn't campaign reform need to have been in place for this to happen? With the CPUC completely out of control, (and apparently now even going after solar) it seems that all the authorities that are supposed to be safeguards are just the opposite. Where do we find the leadership to accomplish all this, when local politicians are frequently buffoons, ill-informed, too partisan to think straight and/or empty suits?— April 23, 2015 9:20 a.m.
Put that in your pipeline and smoke it
So what is the solution?— April 22, 2015 2:20 p.m.
Going off the rails on a gravy train?
I think the problems with drawing both retirement and salary were due to the return to Sweetwater, when he was hired as "Ed Brand and Associates" and went over the capped amount allowable for salary while also drawing retirement. Which then continued for several years. ( "Associates" being his wife). Dianne Russo is in similar trouble--I believe both of them are appealing, but the ruling was that they had to pay money back and pay some penalties, I believe. All of which was predicted by the teachers' group, who very plainly stated these problems from the outset. The Sweetwater board, of course, ignored all warnings and went their merry way. (The exact number of years Ed Brand has paid into the retirement system I cannot tell you--I would think it would include his years teaching and his years as an administrator).— April 21, 2015 1:08 p.m.
Out of time and space
What you are describing can be termed transcendence, but having a term for it doesn't begin to cover the experience. Very well written.— April 21, 2015 11:01 a.m.
Going off the rails on a gravy train?
At some point, it starts to look like the "powers-that-be" are part of the problem.— April 21, 2015 9:48 a.m.
Going off the rails on a gravy train?
Yes, it is very sad that Susan Luzzaro no longer has a place at the Reader. Many things do not make sense, and this is one of them.— April 21, 2015 6:47 a.m.
Last call: The White Snake and My Fair Lady
Both are great shows, and not to be missed!— April 20, 2015 5:27 p.m.
Going off the rails on a gravy train?
The web gets very tangled. You can bet there is more.— April 20, 2015 5:18 p.m.
Order in the court, Judge Bencivengo!
This latest explosion does make me wonder just how PG&E and SDG&E are doing with those lists of pipes that are due for upgrading--might be nice if there could be an update on that. I do remember reading that the San Bruno pipes that exploded had been on a repair list for over 10 years, and nothing had been done. Makes me wonder. And have the occasional moment of concern.— April 19, 2015 10:21 a.m.
Sami storehouse on stilts at Skansen, the world's oldest open-air museum, in Stockholm, Sweden
Just wondering here--I'm sure you do know that Switzerland is not the same as Sweden--so it would make sense to change the heading, even if this is almost five years old!! Or is this post-modernist sarcasm?— April 17, 2015 5:56 p.m.
