Barry Minkow movie is finally out
SportsFan0000: Minkow did very good reports on multi-level marketing companies before he did the Lennar disaster. He would put out a negative report on a company and then short the stock (betting it would go down.) That is legitimate as long as he revealed his position, and he did. He made good bucks on some of those pyramid scams but he told me that his investments just evened out. (That was before Lennar.) However, Fortune Magazine said that he was taking money under the table from companies he had whacked in print. Best, Don Bauder

Barry Minkow movie is finally out
Sam Kephart: I am not surprised if Caulk is a good movie producer. If Minkow scammed Caulk, it wasn't the first time he scammed someone. Sadly, it won't be the last, either. After Minkow gets out of prison next year, my guess is that he will go back to conning people. Respectable operations will be loath to hire him. He won't be able to go back to preaching the gospel. But he will no doubt find something. Sociopaths do. Best, Don Bauder

Charles La Bella honored by trial lawyers
SportsFan0000: Herb Klein, with whom I battled for years, left the job as editor of the San Diego Union to become one of Nixon's first flacks. (Incidentally, Klein was a horrible writer.) When Nixon finally won the White House, Klein went with him, and brought along Gerald Warren, who had been an editor of the Union. At one point, Nixon banished Klein to another building, saying, in effect, that his brain was scrambled. (It was.) Warren became the second-in-command PR man and handled press conferences about Watergate. This gave Warren national recognition. He continued under Ford after Nixon resigned. But Helen Copley named Warren editor of the Union. When she became unhappy with him, she brought in Klein as a superior. Klein became the PR man touting the remake of the then-named Jack Murphy stadium, the seat guarantee, and the massive subsidy to the Padres. He never understood that this was a big conflict of interest, because his title was editor-in-chief of Copley Newspapers. Since I was the main opponent at the paper of the Chargers/Padres scam, Klein tried to get me fired, but failed. Best, Don Bauder

Barry Minkow movie is finally out
SportsFan0000: Minkow was in prison once again when the movie script was rewritten and the film was completed. Yes, Minkow was a self-promoter. He would tell me about the upcoming movie before he got nabbed a second time. He sent me a couple of books about himself. Best, Don Bauder

Barry Minkow movie is finally out
SportsFan0000: Minkow is clearly a sociopath. There are plenty like him on Wall Street, although they are slicker and better educated, with advanced degrees from Harvard, Wharton, etc. Best, Don Bauder

Bridgepoint slammed over veterans
SportsFan0000: No, Bridgepoint and its Ashford operation have not been shut down. Since the Trump administration likes for-profit universities -- despite the corruption -- the company won't be closed. At least, it is still under federal investigation, and also under investigation of several states, particularly California. Incidentally, I realized yesterday I neglected to name the senators penning the letter. They are Dick Durbin of Illinois and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire. Best, Don Bauder
— March 31, 2018 7:32 a.m.
Industrial vacancies lowest ever for San Diego
SportsFan0000: Schwenker is offering a similar argument. He wants a short lease -- maybe 6 months -- to give him maximum flexibility to expand. But Nevin says he won't get one that short in San Diego, but there is evidence that some of the larger young companies are getting short-term leases. Best, Don Bauder

Yanni got $102,000 for a classic Porsche
Psycholizard: I refuse to look that up. Best, Don Bauder

Barry Minkow movie is finally out
SportsFan0000: Minkow did very good reports on multi-level marketing companies before he did the Lennar disaster. Best, Don Bauder— April 2, 2018 12:45 p.m.

Best, Don Bauder— March 31, 2018 8:27 p.m.
Best, Don Bauder— March 31, 2018 7:59 a.m.
Best, Don Bauder— March 31, 2018 7:45 a.m.
Barry Minkow movie is finally out
SportsFan0000: Minkow is clearly a sociopath. There are plenty like him on Wall Street, although they are slicker and better educated, with advanced degrees from Harvard, Wharton, etc. Best, Don Bauder— March 31, 2018 7:41 a.m.
Best, Don Bauder— March 31, 2018 7:32 a.m.
Best, Don Bauder— March 30, 2018 12:52 p.m.

Darren: I can't comment because I don't imbibe, but my wife and two sons like IPAs. Best, Don Bauder— March 29, 2018 8:43 a.m.
