Big City Bagels

I crave this place! I do biz downtown maybe once a month, coming down from O'side, and I can't wait to get my bagel at Big City. If I'm later than breakfast, the chopped salad - where you pick your fav five ingredients, is also incredible

Old Venice

It was the newly-wedded couple's favorite place. Our evening started with our wedding party of ten being seated 40 minutes after our reservation time. We had to ask for the customary baskets of bread for the table. The server refilled water glasses and didn't return them to the same position, causing several to wonder who's glass belonged to who. The evening finished by having to ask for the manager just to get our un-attentive server to bring us our bills. In between these experiences, my Pasta with Olive Oil & Garlic was mostly oil. But the thing that ticked me off the most was that the grains of pepper were too big to come out of the pepper shaker. But the bread was great!

McDonald's Bistro

I'm not sure if this a one of a kind McDonalds, or a test market place for a new concept, but what a concept! You've got the full happy meal McDonalds for the kids on one side, and the "Bistro" menu on the other - guys with white aprons and chef's hats that offer about 10 great, fresh grilled sandwiches, and served on real plates. Nice french style booths, tables, and chairs. Gives us adults a reason to go to McDonalds, even sometimes without the kids.

Today's Pizza & Salad

Very upscale pizza and pasta, but with family prices. Owner/Chef Michael came from Leucadia Pizza and opened up his own place. Complete pizza, calzone, pasta, and salad menu. Two nights a week, the place is packed with musicians. One night is Hawaiian music night, the other hillbilly honky tonk night (they'd call it blue grass). Just fun to sit, watch, & listen. if you can get in. Delivery too! Very family & kid friendly. Everything is quality food.

Jorge's

A cut above most taco shops, Jorge is from his original shop on El Camino Real, and Jorge Jr., both run this newer location in the Santa Fe VONS shopping center @ I-5. Usual Mexican food selections, but quality and taste are high. Incredible Chicken Soup!

Celia's

This is like old time mexican food, good and inexpensive. I crave the 3 taco plate, comes with rice and beans. When traveling anywhere east on I -8, worth the stop. Sunset Magazine said "Best in the Valley."

Pepper Tree Frosty

The last great hamburger stand in North County. Good food at reasonable prices. On the desert side, almost any shake, malt, cone, or freeze flavor you might want, in a multitude of sizes. Family owned for decades, this place is a must for burgers & fries lovers. Unfortunately a Sonic is opening up 2 blocks down the street next year, so lets all help keep Pepper Tree Frosty in biz.

Ocean View Buffet

If you like fried Asian & fried seafood, this is your place. Not even a green salad at this buffet, but who goes to an Asian buffet for the salad bar? Nowhere near the selections of other buffets in town, but they have some standouts - if you like fried - Crab, Chicken Wings, Squid, & Shrimp - all done spicy salt & pepper style. Snow Crab Legs most days, when others have only on weekends (but no warm butter), & Coconut Shrimp. All Yummy. Did I say fried? A very informal place, usually just go in and pick up a plate and start serving yourself. Only a two employee place, one cooks, the other serves the drink and picks up plates. I think the same two work all day long and into the evening til close. Also the thinest napkins in the world. One touch and its used up. $7.39 all day includes drink.

Gianni's

Seems like there's now a pizza shop on every corner, but this place stands out above the rest. I've been eating there since 1995. Located in the Home Depot shopping center, College Blvd. @ 78, they have excellent sandwiches, salads, and tasty, cheesy, saucey pizza. But the thing you'll crave is their stuffed bread sticks! My sandwich fav is the TBA - turkey, bacon, & avo on a fresh role, with just the right amount of fixin's. Glenn Gianni and his crew do things right.

World Curry

Of all the restaurants I've eaten at, this is the one I can't understand why there is not more than this one location? If you like curries, this is the place!!!! Stylish & hip room, great selections from Japanese to Indian curry.
