Strangers Have the Best Candy
It beats working for a living, Pete. I, too, am jealous of Josh. ;o)— November 23, 2008 4:01 a.m.
Red, White, and Green Day
I decided well before the election that the word "racism" actually means "anything you say that we don't like." Google the word "niggardly," and the phrases "black hole" and "Texas," and you'll see what I mean.— November 23, 2008 3:55 a.m.
Have you ever gotten a black eye?
I'm sure I've had a black eye or two, but don't remember. I broke my toe in karate. I was sparring with my sensei. Went to kick her, but when she did a low block with her arm, her elbow caught my big toe. It was black and blue for days. Finally healed up and I went back to karate. Was sparring with one of sensei's black belts (or maybe red belt). Went to kick her, when she, too, caught the same toe with almost the same exact block (elbow).— October 26, 2008 11:01 a.m.
Jack in ze Box...Schnell!!
Wouldn't that be Cashew? Which Jack is that? I used to go to the one on Business Park, just off Palomar Airport Road, but I've been to Jack's all over San Diego, So Cal., and Texas. Now that I'm stationed here in Maryland, we have no Jack's. Wish we did. I lived off Melrose and Hacienda for about 12 years.— October 26, 2008 10:51 a.m.
Were you ever humiliated by a teacher?
I'm sure it happened, but I've no doubt repressed those memories. I did have a German Professor in college, who, even 10 years after graduation, occasionally fuels my fantasies. I'm sure she probably considered me too young for her, even though I was old enough to be many of my classmates' father.— September 27, 2008 3:23 p.m.
Mr. Pouty-Pants by Jennifer Herring
You got off light. Consider yourself lucky.— September 27, 2008 3:03 p.m.
The Cats Stay by David Hawthorne
You've discovered one of the keys to their thinking: what's mine is mine; what's ours is mine.— September 27, 2008 2:58 p.m.
Can’t Do This by Aaron Taylor
A little off track, but I look at people who have babies and young children, and I want to punch their heads off. 1st, I think: how many of these brats are we the taxpayers going to have to end up supporting because these selfish a**hole "parents" didn't plan and prepare for children? 2nd, I see the way some of these so-called "parents" behave in public, especially behind the wheel, and think, "thanks for f-ing up your children and leaving the rest of us to deal with their ego-centrist, thoughtless, rude, inconsiderate behavior as teens and young adults. Okay, off track. Sorry about that. Condolences on your losses. Grieve and move on. I wouldn't have phrased it the way shell did, but I basically agree with him/her.— September 27, 2008 2:52 p.m.
Is there intelligent life in the universe?
The earth is about to collapse under the weight of all the stupidity. If there is intelligent life in the universe, and they're smart, they'll avoid us like the plague.— September 25, 2008 3:51 p.m.
San Diego Marine -- No Medal of Honor
I was watching Current TV this morning while I was having my morning coffee. The segment that was on was about black guys who skateboard - something to do with that, anyway. I wasn't paying that close attention. At least a couple of the brothers were talking about how, when they first started skating, back in about 99, 2000, they couldn't skate through their own neighborhoods. Their brothers and sisters in da hood would throw rocks, bottles, all kinds of junk at them, curse at them...invariably, all these guys said the same thing: the insults that were most frequently hurled at them was effectively "what are you doin', acting white!?" The point here: one of the great lies that keeps getting perpetuated is that [only] white people can be prejudiced. That rarely gets said out loud, but bigotry and prejudice is always coached in terms of it being a "white" thing. Or did you want me to dig up a link about the city official down in Texas (forget which city); a black guy, who went high order over somebody's use of the phrase "black hole." Or the screeching that went on over someone's use of the word niggardly (even after it was explained). They're pretty sure that in the Jenna 6 case, the reason they had an all-white jury was no black folks showed up; that it was a conspiracy amongst "the community." I've been around enough black folk in my day that on the scale of things, white folks got nothin' on black folks in terms of being bigots.— September 20, 2008 5:31 p.m.
