The Measure of Success
"Seriously, if a person cannot make a reasoned, documented and persuasive comment on a subject for fear of causing others pain, then we are resiled to a changeless future. If the truth hurts, far better to know the truth than to live a lie - even if that lie was learnt in innocence or through naivety." Agree with skennerl 100%. As Campbell said in his interview with Bill Moyers, "Everything you do is evil for somebody." We can never know the full effects of our actions, because they are ripples in a pool that goes on forever. He goes on, "The best we can do is INTEND toward the light." As long as your intention is positive and not malicious, you have nothing to apologize for, and no reason for a guilty conscience. What was the subject? If I had to make a guess: Abortion. Am I right?— December 22, 2009 7:26 p.m.
Tow-tow-tow, Merry Christmas!
This kind of bulls*** is common in all cities. The cops are usually in collusion with the towing companies for all kinds of kickbacks. Back in the early 90s, I had a car stolen back in Texas. The thieves got it only as far as around the corner, and ditched it. (It was running VERY badly.) Unfortunately, it was in an apartment complex parking lot, hidden behind the buildings, and it wasn't discovered until management there called the cops, who had it towed without contacting me. It had sat for 6 weeks a couple hundred yards away from my apartment, towed clear across the county, and held for 4 days BEFORE I got a call from the cops about it. THEN, I called and told it would cost me $400 or so to get it back from the towing company. I hit the freakin' roof. I called the Chief of Police and told him I was wondering what kind of kickback arrangements they had with this towing company, and also what one of the local TV consumer advocates would have to say about the whole situation on the evening news. (I also told him about how I had sat and WATCHED the car get stolen, on the phone with 911, just a half mile from his police station, and got no response until 30 minutes later.) Guess what? I got my car back, and I didn't pay $400 to get it, either.— December 19, 2009 6:16 p.m.
Oxy on the Rise
I always thought THIS song was titled Hero/Heroin (sans "e.") I think it makes a lot more sense that way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcJfyZ49G3U Whether someone's your hero or your heroine, they can be your heroin. Same thing, really. :) As for drugs, does anyone know the straight stats regarding legality and usage of various drugs in Europe? My guess would be that most are legal, and that Europeans are overall none the worse for it. I could be wrong, and I'm too lazy/tired to research it.— December 19, 2009 6 p.m.
Doomed Because It's So Damn Easy
"You see, technology is in human hands and as our brains get bigger..." On the contrary, I'd say it's causing our brains to atrophy at an alarming rate. Even the lowly calculator has contributed greatly to this downhill trend. How many people can do any math at all without one? When was the last time you came across a cashier at a store who could make change? As if we weren't being made stupid enough by televeggin' already.— December 19, 2009 5:31 p.m.

FYI, if something seems a bit squirrelly, admin posted my original comment for me after I'd written another. Regarding children's books, I think you should try one, gringo. Somebody needs to take that showoff J.K. Rowling down a peg or two. :)— December 18, 2009 6:10 p.m.

Hey! That looks like a great site, RG. http://editorialass.blogspot.com/2009/12/mentors-… And based on the reaction there, you're obviously doing a lot of things right. (As if we didn't know that already.)— December 18, 2009 11:25 a.m.

Let's see if I can get a comment to post this time. I loved your story-within-a-story here. It looks like you have quite a few fans over at that other site, too. I'll bet you get a book out before you even hit the half-century mark, my friend. Still a spring chicken! You're just now getting warmed up for the next 50, when you become a rich and famous author. :) And when that happens? Don't forget those of us who knew ya waaaay back when you had to put up with pain-in-the-a$$ hack editors giving your great stories sensationalist, crappy titles. ;)— December 17, 2009 5:38 p.m.
Weld Paddy's Mental Web
Going on Day 3 with no bloggery from the Pikester. Daniels is conspicuously absent as well. Hmmm... Why does the phrase "sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G" keep going through my head? ;)— December 17, 2009 3:42 p.m.

Oooooh, Daniels? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oifne6lec7w (Totally OT, but whatever.) :)— December 15, 2009 9:59 p.m.
