"My grades were dropping like lemmings off a cliff."
Can't believe you brought this up. Was just looking into it a couple weeks ago.

"After a year or so of even more confusion over where my life was headed,I decided I would drink my self to death."
Harder than you think, ain't it? I understand you 'can' get alcohol poisoning, but it never happened to ME, and I was on a first name basis with Jack for about a year-and-a-half or so in high school as well. Here's a rather heroic attempt at it:

Nicolas Cage won Best Actor for it.
As to the rest, yes, being sexually abused in any way at a young age will definitely screw up your sexuality and lead to a lot of confusion. In my own case, my adoptive "mother" was just creepy enough and did just enough to give me a serious case of the heebie-jeebies regarding women.
I say all the time that I'm a "gay dude trapped in a straight woman's body," which I think is most accurate. I'm a pretty androgynous character, and a lot of my personality is very "male," if there is such a thing. And, I wonder a bit if the b*tch didn't cheat me out of something by turning me off women entirely.
Regarding the whole gay issue -- well, that's a deep one. I lean toward sexual preference being more biological than anything for several reasons, but there also seem to be a lot of gay folks that reveal they were sexually abused, so that always gives me pause.
I also don't have the most faith in psychologists, Pete. I think a lot of them are none too sharp, actually. I wish you luck in sorting all of that out.
I was mentioning to someone in email the other day this book and video series:
http://www.amazon.com/Homecoming-Reclaiming-Champ…http://www.amazon.com/Bradshaw-Homecoming-Part-1-…
I used to know that video series so well I could almost recite it. I still think it's the most important series for people that's ever been shown on television. I first saw it in 1990 and it opened my eyes to, well, just EVERYTHING about my childhood, family, etc. I finally understood it all, perfectly.
John Bradshaw is the best author/lecturer on this subject, bar none, and I've read a bunch of them. Everybody else just seems to be derivative of his work, and much less complete. — October 6, 2009 8:34 p.m.

Re #55: I like the sidebar comment: "Hey, ever wanted to see all of the worst stereotypes about America in one internet video? Take it away, Screaming Fat Guy at a Walmart McDonald's!" Absolutely hideous. That's about when I turn around, look at him and yell, "SECURITY!!!" at the top of my lungs. Oh, wait. No I wouldn't. Because I wouldn't be in a WAL-MART.— October 6, 2009 9:35 p.m.
