Marriott wants fat subsidy to keep Tony Robbins seminar in Palm Desert
I went to a minor league baseball game over 20 years ago in Las Vegas. We were sitting upstairs in the club level (hey, it was summer, after all, and the A/C worked VERY well), and who was sitting next to us--none other than Tony Robbins. We eventually left that part of the club, mainly because the SOB wouldn't shut up. He was talking to his date (I suppose) the entire time, and baseball never came up. Don't know what he was selling that night, but the guy is a windbag.— June 14, 2013 1:58 p.m.

For-profit colleges exploit African-Americans
And now, I see a story that broke on Monday says that Ashford University has laid off 450 people, almost all of which are in the San Diego area. Most of them were "recruiters". Interesting...— June 13, 2013 5:13 p.m.

Ron Fowler gives away free stuff if you go to Padres games
Ah, the old "well, everyone else is doing it" argument, and I know that's what they said. And it isn't so much the season ticket holders--it's the fans that might want to just catch a game now and then. "How much are the tickets today? Wait--they are how much next week for the same seat?"— June 11, 2013 1:56 p.m.
Ron Fowler gives away free stuff if you go to Padres games
Perhaps if the Padres dumped the "Dynamic" pricing that they use for ticket sales and post ticket prices that don't fluctuate. Dynamic pricing is dumb--post the ticket prices at the ticket windows and on pocket schedules. If the team gets good, you could raise ticket prices, but at least let fans know the price of the product.— June 11, 2013 9:08 a.m.

Ron Fowler gives away free stuff if you go to Padres games
Actually, ticket sales are up 159/game over last season. Unfortunately, giveaway nights aren't the draw they used to be, although that may change. Back in the days of the late 1990's-early 2000's (until Lucchino left), Saturdays became known as "baseball night in San Diego"; the team was crappy during many of those years, but many Saturday nights the Padres drew close to 60,000 to the Q for the giveaways--which were NOT limited to the first 25,000 as they are now.— June 11, 2013 9:03 a.m.
